But the surprising thing is that it is very difficult for good to find that house in this picture. Repeatedly your eyes will go to the building seen in the picture, which has two churches. But somewhere in the midst of them, that diluish mysterious house is hidden. Thousands of people pass through it every day, but they too are unable to notice it. Did you see that house? Let us know that two churches named Igreja Dos Carmelitas and Igreja Do Carmo are adjacent to each other in the city of Igreja Dos Carmelitas. At first glance it seems to be the same huge church, but in reality it is three different buildings. Barely 1.5 meters wide Casa Escondido between these two churches, which is so thin that looks like a wall from outside. Its identity is just one green door and two small windows. Every day thousands of people pass through it, but no one knows that an entire house is hidden behind it. This unique house was recently shown in the Channel 4’s show “George Clarke’s Amazing Spaces”, where the host George Clarke made the audience a tour inside it. George was surprised as soon as he entered this house built in 1768. He said, “This is really amazing! The front door is just a little more wide than one meter, but it spreads a little as soon as it goes inside.”

There is a beautiful spiral ladder inside, which divides this house into three floors. It has a living room, bedroom, study and an additional room, which looks like a magical place of Harry Potter. George said that the church on the left was made for the Carmelight Nuns in the 17th century and the church on the right was for the sadhus in the 18th century. Casa Eskondido was built between these two, so that the monks and nuns should be separated from each other. According to some local stories, the law at that time had the rule that two churches could not share the same wall and hence this small house was built. In a way, it became a bridge to connect and separate both. George was surprised to see the simplicity inside the house. He said, “Everything inside is very simple inside. There are churches adorned on both sides, but in the middle this house is only white walls and wood flooring, like a monk’s room.” From the outside it seems so simple that no one can think that there is a whole house inside it.

People lived in Casa Escondido till the 1980s. Chaplin, artist, doctor and church caretaker have also been here. Now it has become the center of attraction of a tourist, where you can see this house and nearby museum by taking tickets for 5 euros (about 500 rupees). This house is not only famous for its unique structure, but also for the history that connects it to the story of sadhus and nuns. This house reminds us of the rules and customs of time, which seem strange today, but were part of the society of that time. George Clarke called it a “hidden treasure” and it is really true.
