The 44th match of IPL 2025 is being played between Kolkata Knight Riders and Punjab Kings at Eden Gardens. Punjab Kings captain Shreyas Iyer won the toss of this match and chose to bat.
KKR made two changes in their playing XI. They gave a place in the playing-11 to such an Indian fast bowler, who played an IPL match after two years. This bowler was last seen in action in the 2023 IPL. The special thing is that KKR included this bowler as a replacement in the current season, because no one paid any attention to him in the mega auction.
Actually, we are talking here about left-arm fast bowler Chetan Sakariya. Yes, 27-year-old Sakariya was last seen in action in 2023, when he played for Delhi Capitals against Chennai Super Kings. Chetan has made his T20 and ODI debut in the Indian cricket team. In 2021, he made his international debut. However, he has played only 3 matches in both formats. Two in T20 and one in ODI. He has a total of 3 wickets in these matches.
Let us tell you that no franchise gave any bid to Chetan Sakariya in the mega auction for IPL 2025. He remained unsold. However, KKR added Sakariya to the team as a replacement after their injured star pacer Umran Malik was ruled out of the tournament. This bowler was included in the KKR team for Rs 75 lakh. Now this team led by Ajinkya Rahane has also given him a place in the playing-11. Chetan got a place in the playing XI of this match in place of Ramandeep Singh.
Chetan Sakariya made his IPL debut playing for Rajasthan Royals. In 2021, this pacer made headlines by taking 3 wickets in his debut match itself. Chetan Sakariya emerged as a big star in this debut season itself. He took 19 wickets for Rajasthan Royals, after which he got a chance to play in Team India. Apart from Rajasthan Royals, Chetan has been a part of Delhi Capitals and Kolkata Knight Riders.
Chetan Sakariya has taken 20 wickets in 19 IPL matches. During this, Chetan Sakariya’s economy has been 8.44 and average 29.55. His best bowling figure is 3 wickets for 31 runs. Chetan Sakariya had staked a claim to be the future star of Team India after his strong IPL debut season, but after this his poor form was seen. However, now Chetan Sakariya has been given a chance by KKR in the playing-11, which he would like to grab with both hands. Along with performing brilliantly in this match, Chetan will try to play all the upcoming matches for KKR.
