Punjab Kings will return to the top four if they win tonight, while the Chennai Super Kings will officially be knocked out of playoffs contention with a loss. Follow the live cricket scores and updates from the CSK vs PBKS, IPL 2025 match
What an end to the game! After getting to the doorstep, Punjab stumble, losing Shreyas Iyer and Suryansh Shedge in quick succession. But a french cut to the boundary off Marco Jansen’s bat seals the deal for the visitors. And with that, CSK are officially eliminated from the playoffs race.
Prabhsimran Singh gets to his fifty off 31 balls for a second consecutive half-century, but is dismissed soon after by Noor Ahmad. Shreyas Iyer, meanwhile, gets to a fifty of his own and is unbeaten with Nehal Wadhera joining him at the other end. PBKS now need 60 from six overs.
PBKS: 131/2 (14 overs)
Priyansh Arya smacks a 15-ball 23 but has to go after nicking off to Khaleel Ahmed. Punjab skipper Shreyas Iyer joins Prabhsimran Singh in the middle, and gets busy immediately. The visitors are maintaining a run rate in the vicinity of nine per over, which means the asking rate hasn’t slid beyond manageable proportions.
PBKS: 80/1 (8.5 overs)
An elongated CSK innings, exacerbated by Punjab Kings’ poor over-rate means there is barely any breathing space after Yuzvendra Chahal’s hat-trick. Priyansh Arya and Prabhisimran Singh are out to open for the visitors and off to a strong start, rattling off 17 runs in the first two overs.
PBKS: 17/0 (2 overs)
An utterly dramatic end to the CSK innings. MS Dhoni smacks Yuzvendra Chahal for a six, and the leggie responds with his wicket and three more off successive deliveries later in the over. The out-of-favour India spinner completes his second hat-trick in Indian Premier League as Chennai lose six wickets in 11 balls to be dismissed for 190 runs in 19.2 overs.
CSK: 190 all out (19.2 overs)
Azmatullah Omarzai cleans up Dewald Brevis to break his 78-run partnership with Sam Curran. But the English southpaw continues unfettered, and is now batting in the 80s with the explosive Shivam Dube joining him. The duo is surely aiming at setting a 200-plus target for Punjab Kings.
CSK: 160/4 (16.1 overs)
The hosts have bounced back well with the bat, as Sam Curran and Dewald Brevis stitch together a dangerous partnership. After a circumspect start, both batters have cut loose and are finding the fence with regularity. As a result, CSK’s run rate has swelled well above 9 an over and they are eyeing a 200-plus total now.
CSK: 114/3 (12.3 overs)
After a quiet couple of overs, Chennai Super Kings’ openers Shaik Rasheed and Ayush Mhatre break the shackles and get some boundaries going. But both are dismissed soon after, and Ravindra Jadeja too falls towards the end of the powerplay. Sam Curran and Dewald Brevis are now at the crease, looking to rebuild.
CSK: 55/3 (7 overs)
Arshdeep Singh has the ball in hand for Punjab Kings. The India left-arm seamer has uncapped Indian openers Shaik Rasheed and Ayush Mhatre to contend with. Arshdeep begins well, producing a disciplined first over with just three runs off it despite a wide.
CSK: 3/0 (1 over)
Punjab Kings have won the toss and elected to bowl first against Chennai Super Kings at the latter’s home ground, the Chepauk stadium.
