The win over MI in Ahmedabad helped Iyer become the first captain in the world to lead three different teams to IPL finals and also the first captain to reach back-to-back IPL finals with two different teams.
Iyer added 84 runs for the fourth wicket with Nehal Wadhera (48 runs) and an unbeaten 38 runs for the sixth wicket with Marcus Stoinis (2 runs) to seal a memorable win for the 2014 IPL losing finalists.
The win over Mumbai Indians in the second knockout match of IPL 2025 was Iyer’s 50th win as captain in the IPL. Only MS Dhoni, Rohit Sharma, Gautam Gambhir and Virat Kohli have won more IPL matches than him as captain.
