James Anderson has taken 287 white-ball wickets for England
England's all-time leading Test wicket-taker James Anderson went unsold on the second day of the Indian Premier League auction, which saw 13-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi picked up by Rajasthan Royals for 1.1 crore (£105,000).
Left-handed opener Suryavanshi scored a 58-ball century for India Under-19s in a youth Test match against Australia and was the subject of a bidding war between the Royals and Delhi Capitals, and eventually secured by former India batter Rahul Dravid's side.
Anderson retired from international cricket in July but entered the IPL auction, saying there was "something in me that thinks I can still play".
The 42-year-old has not played any white-ball cricket for England since 2015 and his last T20 international appearance was more than 15 years ago.
A total of 116 players were auctioned in sets in the first phase of the auction, before the remaining 461 who had put their names forward for the IPL, including Anderson, were considered by teams as potential additions.
All 10 teams put forward lists of the players they were interested in for an accelerated auction on day two, and Anderson was not among those selected.
Anderson could be signed as an injury replacement or for someone who has to leave the tournament for international commitments, but because of a lack of match practice that is unlikely.

There were several deals secured by England players with all-rounder Sam Curran, who became the most expensive player in IPL history in the 2023 season, picked up by former side Chennai Super Kings for 2.4 crore (£225,000).
CSK also signed fast bowling all-rounder Jamie Overton for his first IPL deal, while Will Jacks joined Mumbai Indians, having previously been with Royal Challengers Bengaluru, for 5.25 crore (£495,000).
England newcomer Jacob Bethell, 21, also earned his first contract with RCB while seamer Brydon Carse was bought by Sunrisers Hyderabad.
Former England all-rounder Moeen Ali went unsold in the first round, but was later picked up by defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders.
They join England team-mates Jofra Archer, Phil Salt, Harry Brook, Liam Livingstone and captain Jos Buttler, who earned deals on day one.
Adil Rashid, Jonny Bairstow and Ben Duckett were among the England players to go unsold, while Australia batters Steve Smith and David Warner also failed to secure a deal.
India wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant became the record buy, Lucknow Super Giants paying 27 crore (£2.54m) for his services.
Pant returned to cricket in last year's IPL after a 14-month lay-off because of a car accident.
