MS Dhoni’s CSK failed to reach IPL 2025 Playoffs. They finished in 10th and last position this season.

Speculation that Sanju Samson can replace MS Dhoni as captain in CSK in IPL 2026 ahead of even Ruturaj Gaikwad. A viral social media post is claiming Rajasthan Royals may release Sanju Samson ahead of the next IPL season, and CSK is approaching him.
MS Dhoni took over as CSK captain as Ruturaj Gaikwad was injured mid-way through IPL 2025 season. But Gaikwad also failed to lift CSK to Playoffs in IPL 2024 season.
Sanju Samson guided Rajasthan Royals to IPL final in 2022 where they lost to Gujarat Titans.
Yashasvi Jaiswal is pushing to be Rajasthan Royals captain in IPL 2026, according to media report. That’s why RR may release Samson before next auction.
