The 2024 IPL playoff race was highly competitive. Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) secured the top spot with 20 points, guaranteeing their place.
Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) both had 18 points each and grabbed the second and third spots.
Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) both finished with 16 points, but CSK advanced due to a superior Net Run Rate (NRR).
The IPL Playoff qualification depends on total points, NRR, and head-to-head records. A higher NRR often proves decisive in tie situations which shows the need to not just win but dominate matches.
Despite serving a two-year suspension, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) still hold the record for the most playoff appearances with 12 and have won 4 IPL titles, the last one in 2021.
Mumbai Indians (MI) have reached the playoffs 11 times, following their qualification in 2025. They remain the most successful franchise with 5 titles, last lifting the trophy in 2020.
Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) secured another playoff spot this season, taking their total to 9 appearances, although they are still searching for their maiden IPL title.
On the other hand, Punjab Kings (PBKS) have struggled to make it to the final stages. With their 2025 qualification, they now have 3 playoff appearances, the most memorable being in 2014 when they reached the final after topping the league table.
The league stage of IPL 2025 has come to an end, and the playoff race is now settled. Gujarat Titans, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Punjab Kings, and Mumbai Indians have officially qualified for the top four spots. Sadly, the journey ends here for the remaining six teams, including former champions Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals, who couldn’t make the cut this season. The focus now shifts to the knockout stage, where the top four will battle it out for the IPL 2025 trophy.
