The Sunrisers Hyderabad is a very successful and unpredictable franchise in recent years. But despite their brilliance, they managed to win the IPL title almost a decade back in 2016, when David Warner was the captain of the side.
SRH brought in skipper Pat Cummins, Australian opening batsman Travis Head, and even the coach, Daniel Vettori, to keep the reputation of match-winners alive, as SRH had a dream 2024 season until the finals, where they lost to the Kolkata Knight Riders.
Citing a swap in players, they made several crucial additions to the side from the IPL 2025 mega-auction. The two newest and best additions made were of Indian fast bowler Mohammed Shami and wicket-keeper batsman Ishan Kishan.

Sunrisers Hyderabad bought Mohammed Shami for a whopping INR 10 crores and included Ishan Kishan after a fierce bidding battle for another huge INR 11.25 crores. These two seemed like great additions to strengthen the SRH squad alongside the players from the successful season of 2025.
However, the two big names could not perform to the best of their abilities. Mohammed Shami had an unforgettable season, picking only 6 wickets and having a disastrous economy. Ishan Kishan, though, started off with a stunning hundred and lost his rhythm immediately from the second match.
He gathered 354 runs at an average of 35.40 for the Sunrisers Hyderabad. Now, after the announcement of the new bowling coach, Varun Aaron, a recent viral video on social media has shown the new coach predicting that Mohammed Shami, along with wicket-keeper batsman Ishan Kishan, might be the players released by SRH.

The Sunrisers Hyderabad have made a significant change in their coaching staff after a not-so-happening season in the IPL 2025, where they failed to advance to the playoffs.
Previous bowling coach James Franklin has been replaced by former SRH cricketer Varun Aaron for IPL 2026. This was announced via a social media post made by the Sunrisers Hyderabad on Monday evening, as they tagged it a ‘fiery addition’ to the coaching staff.
“I’d say Mohammad Shami [would be released], because he is obviously towards the back end of his career, struggling with his fitness and maybe Ishan Kishan, they got him at a big price, send them back into auction and try to get them for cheaper prices,” Varun Aaron said on ESPNCricinfo in a viral old video that was shot after IPL 2025.
Varun Aaron has been a former teammate of both Mohammed Shami and Ishan Kishan in the Indian and Jharkhand State teams, respectively. As far as Mohammed Shami is concerned, the pacer has been taking the toll of too many injuries.
Shami has been kept out of action for most of his career due to several injury setbacks. He was part of India’s squad in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 and then went on to play in the IPL as well. However, he has been absent from the field since then.
He was not even picked for the India vs England Test series, which is currently being played in England, despite his vast experience and unmatchable duo with pacer Jasprit Bumrah.
Ishan Kishan, on the other hand, was seen playing in county cricket, where he scored back-to-back fifties, looking to earn a spot in the Indian side shortly.
