New Delhi: KKR are reportedly interested in bringing in KL Rahul and could hand him the captaincy role, as they look to strengthen their squad following a tough 2025 campaign.

Rahul was the leading run scorer for Delhi Capitals’ in the Indian Premiere League (IPL) 2025. KL Rahul is a multitasker as he can not only contribute with the bat and behind the stumps but also brings strong leadership skills. KKR who need to fill key positions, especially after struggling to find a reliable wicketkeeper and leader in their last campaign, might find him as a perfect fit.

KKR might propose a player trade

Reports suggests that KKR may propose a player trade or a big cash deal to Delhi Capitals in order to acquire Rahul.

Since Shreyas Iyer’s exit after KKR’s title-winning IPL 2024 campaign, the team has struggled with a lack of strong leadership. Ajinkya Rahane took over the captaincy in IPL 2025 and impressed with the bat, but his leadership didn’t helped Knight Riders.
Adding to the uncertainty, Rahane also stepped down as captain of Mumbai in domestic cricket, leaving KKR unsure if he’ll be open to leading the side in the upcoming season.

The Knight Riders are considering bringing KL Rahul, a seasoned IPL captain who would be a great asset to the team, Sanju Samson, who is rumored to be leaving the Rajasthan Royals, has also been connected to KKR.
However, the trade remains uncertain, as Delhi Capitals may be reluctant to part ways with one of their key players, and KKR still needs to look a suitable trade package. Additionally, Chennai Super Kings are also rumored to be eyeing Rahul for a leadership role, intensifying the competition for his signature.
If the trade goes through, KL Rahul is likely to take over as KKR’s captain for IPL 2026, offering much-needed experience and stability as the team looks to recover from its recent struggles.
