New Delhi:  Kolkata Knight Riders who secured their third title under Shreyas Iyer’s captaincy in 2024, entered the 18th IPL season aiming to become only the third team, after Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings, to achieve back-to-back championships. However, the ‘Purple Brigade’ struggled to find momentum after beginning their campaign in 2025 as they ended the 2025 campaign on the eight spot.

Andre Russell was released by Kolkata Knight Riders following a disappointing IPL 2025 season. Ahead of the IPL 2026 auction, Russell announced his retirement from playing but has joined KKR as a ‘power coach’ for the upcoming season.

As for Venkatesh, KKR had acquired him for Rs 23.75 crore at the IPL 2025 auction. However, the all-rounder managed only 142 runs in 11 matches at an average of 20.29, leading to his release ahead of IPL 2026.
