After MLC 2025 Disappointment, THESE IPL Stars Could Be Released – Cricket.com

Indian Premier League (IPL) teams would have hoped for a turn in fortune for some of their big-name IPL stars at Major League Cricket (MLC) 2025. But unfortunately for the IPL teams, the form of some of their big signings hasn't turned around in the competition.
So, who are some of the IPL stars who can be released based on their MLC 2025 performance?

Devon Conway’s form has been quite disappointing, and there’s nowhere to hide that fact. The 33-year-old was dropped from the Texas Super Kings’ (TSK) playing XI after a couple of failures in the familiar yellow. The left-hander’s last two scores in MLC 2025 are 13 off 17 and 23 off 23, failing to turn up the heat in the shortest format.

Given that CSK shelled out INR 6.25 crore, the five-time IPL champions could do away with the left-hander and use the money to strengthen their squad elsewhere.

Andre Russell’s form has been beyond bad in the ongoing MLC 2025, with just seven runs across four innings, AVERAGING 1.75. You know what’s the worst part? Russell has a strike rate of 36.84, with just one boundary in the entire competition.

Russell’s dodgy form poses a tough question for KKR: should they drop or release him? Moreover, the all-rounder has just picked up eight wickets in MLC 2025 with an economy rate of 9.94. 

While Rovman Powell might have just cost INR 1.5 crore for KKR, there’s a good chance that they might part ways with him after his display at MLC 2025. Powell hasn’t had the best of MLC thus far, with 26 runs across three games, averaging 8.66, scoring just four boundaries in the entire campaign. 
Given that he only played two games in the entire IPL season, he might be released. 

Glenn Phillips’ release could be a big shock, but his form certainly is not something that the Titans would be pleased to look at. The Kiwi all-rounder has just 15 runs across three appearances in the tournament thus far, and hasn’t yet picked up a single wicket yet with the ball either. 

Gujarat didn’t really use his services until his injury, and it could be a sign that they could potentially release him for a bigger upgrade at the IPL 2026 mini auction.
