Khandva. A unique tradition is followed in the tribal block Khalwa in Khandwa district of Madhya Pradesh. Here Ravana’s son Meghnad is worshiped, who is unique in itself. There is a danger of life in this puja if there is a little mistake. Let’s know about this unique tradition.

Community fair organized to please Meghnad
Khalwa block of Khandwa has the highest number of Gond tribals. Ravana is considered a great pundit, but Meghnad, son of Ravana, is worshiped in the villages here. People here celebrate the festival of Meghnad in a very special way. Every year a community fair is organized to please Baba Meghnad from Rangpanchami to Chaudas. In this fair, there is a flag -breaking competition, which is unique in itself.

Unique way to prepare pillars
The flag race competition takes place in this fair held in Kumhar Kheda. In this, the method of preparing the pillar on which the flag is hanged is also unique. 50 to 60 feet long stem of the tree is smooth for several days with oil, surf and soap. After this, coconut, Batase and cash are tied in a red cloth over the pillar. The courageous youth of the village climb on this smooth pillar and try to break the flag.

Women and women come to the fair
Women and women come to this Meghnad fair. They take green bamboo wood in their hands and prevent the youth from climbing the pillar and also beat them with green bamboo wood. At the same time, villagers increase the enthusiasm of the youth by playing dholak. The competition becomes more interesting when a youth reaches the top and breaks the flag. He is declared the winner.

Meghnad Baba is offered chicken and goat sacrifice
People of Gond society worship Meghnad Baba. According to followers, Meghnad Baba is a great deity of tribals. To please them, chicken or goat is sacrificed. Ramchandra of Kumhar Kheda told that people of Gond society worship Meghnad, son of Ravana as a deity. After harvesting on Holi, everyone worships them collectively.

Worshiping Dashanan Ravana has no meaning
People of the tribal Gond tribe consider Meghnad as their favorite god. Food, water, sun and moon are worshiped as a deity, in the same way Meghnad Baba worships Baba as nature. They have nothing to do with Ravana. They worship only Meghnad. In the fair organized on this occasion, Samajjan worships with the family and enjoys the fair.
