Whenever a Brahmin got married in the house, the demon would kill the groom. The villagers worshiped Maa Sheetla to get rid of this demon. Pleased, Mata Sheetla came to the dream of a Brahmin and said that when her daughter gets married, she will kill that demon. At the time of marriage, Sheetla Mata came as a small girl and caught the demon with her knees and killed her. While dying, the demon asked Maa Sheetla a boon that he feels very thirsty in the summer, so twice a year, he should be given water from the hands of the devotees. Mother Sheetla pledged to fulfill her wish. Since then, there is a tradition of filling water twice a year in this pitcher.
The pitcher opens twice a year
This pitcher is covered with a stone, which is removed only twice a year. On these occasions, women add thousands of liters of water to it, but do not fill the pitcher.
