Highlights

  • A 40 -year -old man was heartbroken in Australia.
  • Bivacor Artificial heart could keep the person alive for 100 days.
  • This artificial heart is still in the testing stage, but it has raised great hope.

Think of a person’s heart should be taken out by ripping his chest and then a machine should be put in his place. It seems like a science fiction film. But it will be called the miracle of science that this thing that seems like dreams has come true. A person from Australia was similarly made a heart made of titanium. The person remained alive for 100 days with the help of this machine heart, which is a record in itself.

The identity of this person has been kept confidential. His age is said to be around 40 years. It became the first patient to receive artificial heart during the operation in November 2023 at St. Vincent Hospital in Sydney.

This patient, who is struggling with severe heart failure, was kept alive from a special type of bull pump called Bivacor Total Artificial Heart, which is made of titanium. This artificial heart continued to give him life until he received a donor heart last week.

Testgation still on this machine heart
According to a statement issued by Sydney’s St. Vincent Hospital, Monash University and Bivacor (American-Australian company that makes this artificial heart), the patient’s condition is stable and is recovering rapidly.

According to doctors and scientists, this artificial heart can become a long -term solution for heart patients. However, it is currently in the testing phase and is not available to the general public. At the same time, Dr. Paul Jansz, a surgery cardiothoresic and transplant surgeon, called it a “game-changer” (revolutionary technology).

How does this machine heart work?
Bivacor uses Magnetic Levitation Technology, which is similar to the technique used in high-speed trains.

It acts to pump blood into the body and lungs, so that both ventricles of the heart can be replaced.

It has only one moving part – a rotating rotor, which is balanced with the help of magnets.

It is made of titanium and does not contain any valve or mechanical bearing, making it more durable and effective.

It is suitable for both men and women and capable of giving enough blood flow to an exercise person.

Trial is also done in America
The initial test of this artificial heart was conducted by the American Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on five patients in the US between July and November 2023. However, all those patients were discharged from the hospital after transplantation.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), every year about 1.8 million (18 million) people worldwide lose their lives due to heart diseases. In such a situation, Bivacor artificial heart can prove to be effective in saving the lives of millions of people in the future.
