Nikhil Swamy/Bikaner. A unique tradition is played on the day of Dhulandi in Bikaner, in which the groom goes to the girl’s house with a procession, but returns without the bride. This tradition is 300 years old and the unmarried youth of Harsh caste is adorned in Vishnu form and joins this procession as a groom. People believe that in this tradition, the groom who becomes a groom gets married within a year.
This time the sage Harsh became a groom in Vishnu form and came out of Mohta Chowk with a procession. To the tune of band-instruments, the baraatis sang Manglik songs and welcomed the groom. The procession reached 13 major houses in the city, where the women of the house performed the ritual of Pokhne and sang Manglik songs. In this tradition, neither marriage nor turns. The groom returns to Mohta Chowk again after performing the ritual on these houses. During this time, the groom and Barati reach 13 houses, women perform the rituals of pokhne.
The groom returns every year without a bride
According to history lecturer Mukesh Harsh, this tradition has been playing for three centuries. The path through which the procession passes, the atmosphere becomes like a marriage. This procession gives the message of love, harmony and tradition between Shankhadhwani, Jhalar’s chimes and Manglik songs. The specialty of this unique procession that comes out on Dhulandi is that the groom returns every year without a bride, yet there is no shortage in gaiety and enthusiasm. A lot of baraatis are taken care of and the atmosphere from which the procession comes out, the atmosphere becomes married. Only an unmarried youth of Harsh caste becomes a groom in this tradition and by joining the procession, he reaches more than ten set houses.

Mukesh Harsh says that in this tradition, the groom is involved in Vishnu form and joins the procession. He walks in the procession on his head wearing windows pag, pandi on the frontal and Kumkum Akshat Tilak, vest and Pitambar, wearing a wreath around his neck. People of the young man’s family, society, mohalla and Harsh caste are involved in this procession. The groom becomes a part of this traditional procession by decorating Vishnu.
