The Tata IPL (Indian Premier League) 2025, is going to start on 22nd March, at Kolkata’s Eden Garden. But before the IPL starts, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is all set to ban promotional ads related to cryptocurrency, tobacco, and alcohol.
Previously this month, the order was passed by the health ministry of India to BCCI for the banning of all forms of promotional ads, including cryptocurrency, tobacco, and alcohol, as well as surrogate advertisements, during the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League.
According to the reports by PTI, to further discuss the topic, a meeting has been scheduled ahead of IPL on 22nd March. In the meeting at Kolkata, the BCCI Apex Council and organizing committee will have a detailed discussion on the government’s order about banning the ads.
The BCCI will also deliberate on the Women’s ODI World Cup, with the aim of determining the final venues for the ICC events later this year.
There will also be a “discussion on the formation of LOC for Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025 and a discussion regarding venues for Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025.”
However, in the past, BCCI has banned many promotional advertisements. During the IPL last year, the ad regulator identified 14 brands that had violated its guidelines.
Since then, the regulator has revised and tightened guidelines for categories such as gaming, edtech, D2C brands, tobacco-related products, celebrity-led ads, and disclaimers.
This year, during the Women’s Premier League (WPL), the BCCI has also banned all forms of advertising and sponsorship related to cryptocurrencies and tobacco.
