Indian seamer Bhuvneshwar Kumar has finally broken his silence after the tragic stampede that unfolded near the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on June 4, 2025, during the celebration of Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s (RCB) IPL 2025 triumph.
In the IPL 2025 mega auction, Bhuvneshwar Kumar was picked by Royal Challengers Bengaluru for ₹10.75 crore. It was a return for the senior Indian seamer to RCB, which he had first joined way back in 2009, but he didn’t get to play a match then in the cash-rich T20I league.
After a long stint with Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) from 2014 to 2023, Bhuvneshwar’s return to RCB in 2025 turned out to be a dream comeback. He played a key role as the senior pacer in the team’s bowling attack and helped Royal Challengers Bengaluru lift their first-ever IPL trophy.

In the IPL 2025 season, Bhuvneshwar picked up 17 wickets in 14 matches. His experience and calm under pressure were crucial in RCB’s historic title triumph, but the celebrations were overshadowed by the tragic stampede in Bengaluru that took 11 innocent lives and left several injured.
Meanwhile, many felt Bhuvneshwar’s leadership with the ball was one of the biggest reasons behind RCB’s success this season, but the seamer refused to take all the credit. He said that the entire team worked hard and made a plan and strategy that ended their trophy drought.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar was quoted as saying by SportsTak: “It’s not that I planned it alone; the whole team did. The whole team tried to do a good job. The whole team did the planning and the strategy. In the two months, we showed a commitment and worked hard. And the result was that we won.
It was not just a title win but a deeply emotional moment for Bhuvneshwar and RCB fans. After years of waiting, they finally have the IPL trophy in hand, and Bhuvneshwar has noted that the team will look to carry the momentum into the next season in 2026.

The RCB star further explained, “It was a really special thing because RCB had never won before. And winning with RCB, the way the fan following is, it was very historic, of course, but it was also an emotional moment. To win with that franchise. So, I think it was very good. And when we go next year, we will try to do better.”

The Indian seamer also shared his thoughts on how the game has changed in recent years. He pointed out that batters are now more aggressive and start attacking from the very first ball. He feels bowlers don’t always get the credit they deserve, even after putting in a lot of hard work.
Bhuvneshwar signed off by saying, “I don’t know exactly what the reason is, but of course, yes, cricket has changed quite a bit. Be it playing aggressively or making the pitches, it has been difficult for the bowlers. Be it the strategy or the performance, bowlers deserve credit, and I feel India is doing great.”
