The Chennai Super Kings began the IPL 2025 season with a win over the Mumbai Indians; however, a string of losses has put them in a difficult spot to qualify for the playoffs.

The five-time champions lost five consecutive matches, with their second win coming against Lucknow Super Giants in their seventh match. That win was also followed by a heavy nine-wicket defeat against MI at the Wankhede.

Despite the losses, all is not over for the Men in Yellow with six matches still left to play in the season. The Sporting News tells you CSK’s chances and scenarios for their qualification.

Yes, the Super Kings can still qualify for the playoffs, however, it will be a mammoth task where they will have to win all their remaining 6 matches, which will see them finish in the top half of the table with 16 points.

With six wins in the remaining matches, CSK can only get a maximum of 12 points, having already played eight matches in the tournament.
14 points is the usual cut-off with which the fourth-placed team can qualify for the playoffs.
In competitive tournaments like the IPL, teams tend to dip in form after a good first half of the tournament. Currently, there are five teams in the tournament with 10 points, and CSK are set to play three of those sides in the remaining matches.

If CSK can go unbeaten in the final six matches, it would take them to a safe spot of 16 points, however, a single loss would mean that they will want some other results to go their way.
So, the chances of qualifying, as of now, are minimal but their fate remains in their hands.
