Devon Conway and Rachin Ravindra open the innings for Chennai Super Kings, with Ravindra having the first strike.
Vaibhav Arora will bowl the first over for Kolkata Knight Riders.
CSK has had a steady start to the innings, with their Powerplay struggles well documented in IPL 2025. Devon Conway hit a wide ball from Vaibhav for a four, and Moeen Ali’s spin was economical, but CSK batters kept rotatitng strikes.
CSK: 10/0 (2)
KKR can’t believe it – they have dismissed both of CSK’s openers in two successive overs. Moeen Ali got Conway in the first ball of the fourth over, and a huge LBW shout was given by the umpire. Real close call, but replays show that the ball would have hit the leg stump. A stunning wicket maiden for Moeen.
Devon Conway 12(11) lbw b Ali
It’s Harshit Rana’s turn to join the party, and the pacer dismisses Rachin Ravindra. The all-rounder gets a leading edge, and skipper Ajinkya Rahane takes a comfortable catch.
Rachin Ravindra 4(9) c Rahane b Rana
It could have been even better for KKR, but Sunil Narine drops Vijay Shankar two balls later. CSK need to regroup fast.
CSK: 18/2 (5)
Neither Vijay Shankar nor Harshit Rana can believe their luck. A change of pace fooled the batter. The ball seemed like an easy catch at midwicket, but Venkatesh Iyer completely fumbles it up. With Shankar striking at 165, it might prove to be costly for KKR.
CSK: 50/2 (8)
Third time’s the charm for KKR. Vijay Shankar looks to go big against Varun Chakaravarthy straight away, and the quick delivery is hit but can’t clear Moeen Ali at deep backward square.
Vijay Shankar 29(21) c Ali b Chakaravarthy
CSK: 61/3 (10)
It’s all going wrong for CSK so quickly. A quick off-spinner from Narine completely fools the batter, and the off-stump is uprooted.
Rahul Tripathi 16(22) b Narine
CSK: 65/4 (11)
Ravichandran Ashwin is the latest to go for CSK. The all-rounder hit it flat off the face of the bat at long-on, and the ball does not make it past Vaibhav Arora. Five down for the home team.
Ravichandran Ashwin 1(7) c Arora b Rana
CSK: 70/5 (13)
That’s number six! Ravindra Jadeja tries to poke it away, but the slighest of edges takes it to wicketkeeper Quinton de Kock’s gloves. He goes for a duck, and CSK are in real trouble now. Whistles can be heard in the MA Chidambaram Stadium.
Ravindra Jadeja 0(2) c de Kock b Narine
CSK: 71/6 (14)
The Kolkata Knight Riders are enjoying themselves at enemy territory tonight. A length delivery from Varun Chakaravarthy is hit by Deepak Hooda, but the contact is imperfect. After two drops by KKR, Vaibhav Arora takes a good, diving catch, and CSK are seven down.
But the Chidambaram Stadium is cheering as MS Dhoni comes in. He needs to fire quickly, as CSK are hitting below five an over at the moment.
Deepak Hooda 0(4) c Arora b Chakaravarthy
CSK: 74/7 (15)
What a close call! A turning ball from Narine beats Dhoni’s defence and hits him on the pad, and the bowler appeals loudly. The umpire agrees, but Dhoni appeals immediately.
Reviews show that the ball missed the bat – just about. The third umpire takes a long time to come to that decision, and ball-tracking shows that the ball would have hit the middle and leg stumping. CSK go eight down, and Dhoni returns for just one.
MS Dhoni 1(4) lbw b Narine
It’s all going KKR’s way. Noor Ahmad tries to hit a bouncer to the leg side, but the ball catches the top edge and gets more height than length. Varun Chakaravarthy runs at least 10 yards from short fine leg and takes a diving catch to put CSK nine down with two-and-a-half overs still left.
Noor Ahmad 1(8) c Chakaravarthy b Arora
KKR: 84/9 (18)
A boundary after 63 balls for CSK! Shivam Dube finally gets some respite, and hits a full delivery from Harshit Rana straight to the ropes. CSK are still far away from 100.
An “expensive” over from Rana, all things considered, conceding five runs off it.
CSK: 90/9 (19)
Vital runs on the board from Shivam Dube, getting a lucky boundary off a top edge, but CSK will take it. The batter, who suffered from a pulled hamstring injury, finished the innings with a boundary, taking his team over the 100-run mark. The final wicket stand, worth 24 runs, is the second-highest of the match.
This remains CSK’s lowest total at the Chepauk, and their third-lowest total overall.
CSK: 103/9 (20)
MS Dhoni’s LBW decision off a spinning ball from Sunil Narine will surely be a controversial decision, considering CSK’s collapse after that.
The UltraEdge showed slight murmurs as the ball passed MS Dhoni's bat 👀

UltraEdge showed the slighest bit of murmurs, and after what seemed like a lifetime, the third umpire decided that there was no bat involved. Even Dhoni walked off the pitch without any chat with the on-field umpires, which is almost the standard practice when batters disagree with marginal calls.
Was it the bat, or scruffing from the feet’s movement? CSK fans will surely talk about this if KKR end up winning this game – which would be the expected result considering the total on board.
KKR begin their chase with Quinton de Kock and Sunil Narine opening the batting, with de Kock having the strike. Pacer Khaleel Ahmed, who has six wickets in IPL 2025 in the Powerplay overs, will start the bowling for CSK.
After Sunil Narine opened the scoring with a six off the last ball of the first over, de Kock joined in, hitting Anshul Kamboj for another maximum. KKR have made a good start to the chase, with the intent being clear – get this match done as soon as possible.
KKR: 19/0 (2)
Despite the fiery start, de Kock fails to capitalise and is completely bowled out by Anshul Kamboj. The veteran hit Khaleel for two sixes in the third over, and tried to go big again. However, it’s a swing and a miss, and the off-stump bail flies off. The South African veteran’s lukewarm form continues, and KKR lose their first.
Quinton de Kock 23(16) b Kamboj
KKR have come out all guns blazing in the Powerplay, and the finished the sixth over with 71 runs already on board. Rahane and Narine are batting at almost 12 runs an over, and Khaleel was hit for 18 runs in the sixth over.
KKR: 71/1 (6)
An excellent cameo knock from Sunil Narine comes to an end, as he is beaten by a skidding delivery from Noor Ahmad, which hits the off stump. Nice boost for the young Afghan, who is now leading the Purple Cap table, but it makes little difference on the match.
Sunil Narine 44(18) b Noor Ahmad
It’s all over at the Chepauk, as Rinku Singh finishes off the chase with a massive six in the first ball of the 11th over. KKR secure the win, and that too with 59 balls left to play.
KKR: 107/2 (10.1)
Sunil Narine deservedly gets the Player of the Match award, taking three wickets in the first innings and then following it up with a 44-run knock off 18 balls.
