Chennai Super Kings vs Kolkata Knight Riders Match Highlights: Kolkata Knight Riders returned to winning ways in the ongoing IPL 2025 as they defeated Chennai Super Kings by 8 wickets in match 25 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on Friday.
After opting to bowl first, KKR restricted the hosts CSK to 103/9 in their 20 overs with Sunil Narine taking three wickets for just 13 runs in his four overs. Harshit Rana and Varun Chakravarthy took two scalps each as well.
The visitors chased down the target in just 10.1 overs to register their third win of the season. Narine played a fiery knock of 44 runs in just 18 balls on the back of two fours and five sixes.
This was CSK’s fifth successive defeat as their struggle continued even in Dhoni’s first match as CSK’s captain in the IPL 2025.
Kolkata Knight Riders defeated CSK by 8 wickets in the IPL 2025 match 25 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium. They have chased down the 104-run target in just 10.1 overs. This is KKR’s third win of this season.
Narine has unleashed an attack on Ashwin and KKR are heading towards a massive win here. 14 runs came off that over.
KKR LIVE Score: 85/1 (7)
Wicket! Kamboj gets his first IPL wicket on his debut for CSK as he dismissed De Kock to give the hosts a first breakthrough. However, KKR have gone past 50 in this easy-looking run chase. De Kock heads back for 23.
KKR LIVE Score: 53/1 (5)
KKR are off to a fiery start here at Chepauk as Narine and De Kock seem in a hurry to finish it off as soon as possible. 15 runs came off that over from Khaleel.
KKR LIVE Score: 34/0 (3)
Shivam Dube smashed a boundary of the final ball as Chennai Super Kings ‘huffs and puffs’ to 103 for 9 after 20 overs.
Not really sure if CSK is interested to play this game anymore. Whichever player is batting, is just looking to take a single. No intent of boundaries at all.
Chennai Super Kings have lost the plot completely at the Chepauk. Kolkata Knight Riders are just bossing this game. Is the pitch that bad? Surely, it might not be a batters paradise but it hasn’t turned in an extravagant manner.
Deepak Hooda has been introduced as an impact player. Still no sign of MS Dhoni. KKR spinners are completing their overs one after the other with no resistance from CSK batters.
Moeen Ali brought back for his final over. Spinners are getting the purchase from the wicket. The ball is stopping and not coming on to the bat nicely. Rahul Tripathi fell prey to Sunil Narine. R Ashwin walks in at number 6.
CSK should target to get 170 from here as the wicket will get slower and difficult to bat as the match progresses. KKR likely to bowl more spinners to get enough purchase from the wicket.
Vijay Shankar is finally counter-attacking as he is taking the aerial route. Moeen Ali’s bowling figures which were looking incredible have somewhat taken a hit.
Harshit Rana gets the crucial wicket of Rachin Ravindra. CSK have lost both their openers with an incredibly slow start. Vijay Shankar has been introduced at number 4. CSK 16/2 (4.2)
Some desperation yeilds in a wicket for KKR as Devon Conway falls to Moeen Ali after attempting a reverse sweep. Conway can be deemed unlucky in this regard as it was umpires call on wickets hitting. CSK 16/1 (3.1)
Second boundary off Conway’s bat. Some swing on offer for Vaibhav Arora and Conway placed a sumptuous straight drive. Black soil at Chepauk do not provides bounce to the wicket as batters have to be play everything according to merit of the ball. CSK 16/0 (3)
Rachin Ravindra and Devon Conway, the Kiwi openers have begun the proceedings for Chennai Super Kings. An interesting thing to note – almost every CSK player has padded up.
Kolkata Knight Riders (Playing XI): Quinton de Kock(w), Sunil Narine, Ajinkya Rahane(c), Venkatesh Iyer, Rinku Singh, Moeen Ali, Andre Russell, Ramandeep Singh, Harshit Rana, Vaibhav Arora, Varun Chakaravarthy
Chennai Super Kings (Playing XI): Rachin Ravindra, Devon Conway, Rahul Tripathi, Vijay Shankar, Shivam Dube, MS Dhoni(w/c), Ravindra Jadeja, Ravichandran Ashwin, Noor Ahmad, Anshul Kamboj, Khaleel Ahmed
Kolkata Knight Riders won the toss and elected to bowl first against Chennai Super Kings.
CSK are placed ninth in the standings after four losses and a solitary win, while KKR are in sixth position with two wins and three defeats in five matches.
When it comes to Kolkata Knight Riders, they will be looking to amend their mistakes from their narrow loss against Lucknow Super Giants three days back, and will look to get back to winning ways before it gets too late for the defending champions.
The likes of Devon Conway, Rachin Ravindra and Shivam Dube will be entering the match on the back of some welcome runs, and that is one positive for CSK in these difficult times. After his failure against PBKS, skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad will however look to fire on Friday while hoping for useful contributions from his colleagues in the top and middle-order.
CSK will have to do change their stratergy again in order to be back at their best and as has been the case in last couple of weeks, a lot of the focus will again be on captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni, who smashed a 12-ball 27 against PBKS with three sixes and a four.
Chennai Super Kings is taking some relief from the batters’ impressive show in the last match against Punjab Kings, which they lost by 18 runs after being set a stiff target of 219 in Mullanpur.
