Welcome to Sportstar’s LIVE coverage of the Chennai Super Kings vs Mumbai Indians IPL 2025 match being played at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. Dhruva Prasad and Abhishek Saini will be bringing you all the updates.
Khaleel Ahmed is subbed out and Rahul Tripathi comes on in his place for the Super Kings.
Ellis to bowl the final over. Chahar gets a couple of runs as he gets an inside edge off a yorker. SIX! Short and pulled away over deep midwicket by Chahar for a maximum. He surprisingly takes a single off the next ball, bringing Satyanarayana Raju on strike. Pulled to deep midwicket by Raju for a single.
Chahar uses the provision to review wide calls outside the off-side, but the third umpire deems the ball to be clearly inside the line, and that’s a dot ball.
Khaleel bowls out. FOUR! Imperious shot from Chahar, who backs away outside leg-stump and slaps the ball over the infield to find the deep extra-cover boundary. SIX! Too full, in the slot and Chahar launches this delivery down the ground for a maximum. Khaleel now comes around the wicket to Chahar, who pulls through midwicket for a single. Trent Boult at the other end. Short, and cut over point by Boult for one more. Width outside off-stump and Chahar cuts it away for another single.
OUT! Boult wants to go big down the ground but is caught at mid-off.
Trent Boult c Ruturaj Gaikwad b Khaleel Ahmed 1 (2b)
Ellis continues. FOUR! Full and chipped over mid-off by Santner for a boundary down the ground. Tucked on the leg-side by Chahar and he struggles to come back for the second. He eventually just makes his ground in the nick of time.
LBW appeal as Santner is rapped on the thigh pad, but not given. Ellis asks Dhoni if height was an issue, but Ruturaj goes upstairs anyway. OUT! Excellent review, three reds on the screen, and Santner has to walk.
Mitchell Santner lbw b Nathan Ellis 11 (13b 1×4)
Noor will continue after the break. OUT! He strikes first ball of the over as Naman is bowled around his legs. That was full at his boots and Naman missed trying to sweep it to fine-leg. Noor on a hat-trick, but Deepak Chahar survives the hat-trick balls by driving it towards cover. Defended on the off-side by Deepak and he is off the mark with a quick single. Punched off the backfoot by Santner for one more. Two dot balls to end the over and Noor ends with 4/18 in four overs on his CSK debut.
Naman Dhir b Noor Ahmad 17 (12b 1×4)
Facing Noor Ahmad, Suryakumar failed to read the googly and was beaten. Dhoni collected the ball and completed the stumping.
Ellis comes back. Dabbed past short third by Naman for a couple of runs. Pulled away through square-leg by Naman for two more. A legcutter from Ellis now and Naman can only drop it on leg-side for a single. Short and wide outside off and called ‘wide’ by the umpire. A couple of singles to end the over and it is time for a strategic timeout!
Ashwin for his final over. FOUR! Naman makes room outside off and lifts the ball over covers to find the boundary. That is the first boundary in 39 balls for MI. A single to end the over and Ashwin ends with 1/31 from his four overs.
Mitchell Santner is the new batter in the middle, against his former franchise. Just four singles in this Jadeja over.
Noor again. He starts off with a wide. Slapped down the ground by Minz for a single next ball. Tilak drives this over covers but excellent work in the deep by Jadeja to keep it down to a single. Minz goes for a slog sweep but misses, and he is struggling on 3 off 8 balls. OUT! Minz holes out at long-off and another one bites the dust for Mumbai.
Naman Dhir is the next man in. He nudges the ball on leg-side to get off the mark with a single. OUT! Tilak is trapped in front off the backfoot, Noor appeals and the umpire lifts his finger. Tilak has reviewed the decision. Three reds on the screen and Tilak has to go.
Robin Minz c Ravindra Jadeja b Noor Ahmad 3 (9b)
Ashwin continues. He starts the over with three dot balls as Minz is unable to put the ball away. Tilak is instructing him from the non-striker’s end. A single for Minz off the fourth ball. Tilak looks to make room outside off-stump but thumps the ball straight to the cover fielder. Just a single from the over, and that’s excellent stuff from Ashwin.
Noor replaces Jadeja. FOUR-BYES! Noor beats Tilak and Dhoni behind the stumps and the ball runs away to the boundary for four byes. This is pitched up wide outside off-stump. OUT! Lightning quick work from Dhoni and Suryakumar is stumped! Noor turned the ball away from Surykumar, who stepped out to drive the ball but couldn’t get to the pitch of it, and Dhoni takes the bails off in a flash.
In comes Robin Minz now. He is off the mark with a single at fine-leg. This is going down leg-side and called a wide. Wide outside off and driven by Tilak for a couple of runs.
Suryakumar Yadav st. MS Dhoni b Noor Ahmad 29 (26b 2×4 1×6)
Ashwin back for his second over. Sky waits for the first delivery to come onto him, pushes it to long on for one run. The second is slightly fuller to Tilak, he still goes into his crease to drill this to long on, one run. Sky goes for another sweep, just one run to deep square leg. Tilak punches the fourth delivery to deep midwicket for a single. DROPPED! Sky offers a leading edge back to the bowler while trying to flick, bursts out of Ashwin’s hands. A single on the final delivery for Tilak.
Six runs from the over.
Jadeja to Tilak, SIX, slog sweeps this delivery. It is pitched on the middle-stump line and goes on straight, comes right out of the middle of the blade. Two runs on the fourth delivery to deep midwicket. Tilak clips the fifth behind square for one. Sky with a punch to long on for one.
Noor Ahmed starts with a wide outside off. Noor sticks to the off-stump line, Sky tries to cut but fails to beat the point fielder. In the air, falls short of deep square leg. Sky attempt to sweep from way outside off, gets a leading edge, one run off it.
The fourth is going down leg, Tilak goes on his back foot and works it to deep midwicket for one. Sky comes down and clips between long on and deep midwicket for two runs. The last is full and wide outside off, Sky square drives it past point for two more.
Ravindra Jadeja into the attack. Sky on strike. Jadeja drills the first into his pads, Sky misses his flick. The second is again angled into the leg, the batter works it away through the on side for one. CHANCE but this goes for a SIX! Tilak goes for a heave over long off, Curran at the boundary misreads and comes forward to collect it only to find the ball going over his head and the boundary line.
Khaleel to bowl his third. SIX! Sky picks this off his pads, lofts it over square leg, uses his wrists on that to great effect. The fourth delivery rises on Sky, blocks it to point for one. Khaleel bowls a no ball, FREE HIT for MI. Beaten! A good bouncer from Khaleel, Tilak pulls but misses.
R. Ashwin to bowl the fifth over. Jacks facing him, length ball first up, pushes it down to long on for one. FOUR! Sky goes inside out, this delivery was outside off, giving him the room to take it on. The third is angled into the pads, Sky taps it through midwicket for one.
WICKET! Jacks looks to emulate his partner’s shot, ends up picking the mid off fielder.
Will Jacks c Shivam b Ashwin 11(7)
Tilak Varma starts with a FOUR! Slices this over the point fielder. FOUR more! Unleashes the reverse sweep, gets a second boundary.
Nathan Ellis to bowl the fourth over. He starts with a slower one to Jacks, who works it through square leg for one. A back-of-a-length ball to Sky, short-arm jabs it for two runs. A quick single for Sky to mid off on the third ball. A soft push to the right of mid on from Jacks, gets him a single.
FOUR! Sky picks his first boundary, pulls this past mid on, too short to him and that’s inviting trouble.
Khaleel to Rickelton, FOUR! Picks the width and cuts past extra cover. OUT! Played on! This is another delivery wide of off, but not quite there for cutting, Rickelton gets a thick edge onto his off stump.
Ryan Rickelton b Khaleel 13(7)
Suryakumar Yadav joins the action. ALMOST! Sky flicks the first delivery and finds the ball dropping just short of the midwicket fielder. Three more dots for him. Just four runs from the over.
Rohit Sharma equalled the record for most ducks in the Indian Premier League (IPL) after he was dismissed by Khaleel Ahmed during the IPL 2025 match between Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians on Sunday.
Sam Curran to bowl the second over. FOUR! Rickelton with a clip off his toes, gets on top of that delivery angling into him and dispatches it through mid on. A hint of outswing from Curran on the second.
FOUR again! At a length, Rickelton stands straight and drives this down the ground. Curran asks the mid on fielder to move to long on now. A single off the fifth delivery on the fifth ball. FOUR for Jacks! A length ball shaping into him, lofts it over mid on.
Khaleel to Rohit, no run, Khaleel comes around the wicket, targets the pads and Rohit misses the flick. The second is outside off, beats Rohit. OUT! Rohit is gone! He flicks this straight to the midwicket fielder.
Rohit c Shivam b Khaleel 0(4)
Will Jacks in at No. 3. FOUR! On the pads and Jacks is off the mark with a clip.
Ryan Rickelton and Rohit Sharma walk in to open the innings. Khaleel Ahmed at the top of his mark. He will bowl the first over.

The square boundaries are 75 metres and 72 metres, and the straight boundary is 74 metres long. Shane Watson says there is a sheen on the pitch and the surface is hard, and the former all-rounder reckons this will be a high-scoring venue, though spinners will have a say in the contest.
The excitement is unmistakable ahead of Sunday’s IPL clash between arch-rivals Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Mumbai Indians (MI) — the two most successful teams in the IPL, with a combined 10 titles. Tickets at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium sold out within minutes on the official booking platform, reflecting the fan frenzy the game generates.
MS Dhoni has the fourth best strike rate at the death (overs 17 to 20) amongst batters who have faced a minimum of 50 balls during this phase of the innings over the last two seasons. The former skipper strikes at a formidable 209.84 during this phase, and still has the ability to turn the match around with his power-hitting.
In the absence of Jasprit Bumrah, Mumbai will have its task cut out against Dhoni, especially at the death. While Boult has dismissed him two times in the death overs, Dhoni has hammered the Kiwi pacer for plenty of runs.
