Delhi heat wave action plan: The Delhi government has launched the heat action plan 2025 in view of the rising heat and the threat of heatwave in the capital. The scheme has been prepared in collaboration with the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), Council on Energy, Environment and Water (CEEW) and United Nations Environment Program (UNEP).
This plan is based on a multidimensional strategy to protect the capital from heatstroke, including timely warning system, spreading awareness and infrastructural reforms. Under the plan, yellow, orange and red alerts will be issued by the Meteorological Department of India (IMD).
Will deliver information through social media
Also, immediate information will be conveyed to the people through social media and local networks. Apart from this, special steps will be taken to protect the weaker sections under the plan, cooling centers and water distribution centers will be set up for the slums, elderly, children and external working laborers and special arrangements will be made for pregnant women and people suffering from serious diseases.
Heat stroke wards will be made in hospitals
Under the plan, cool roof and green roof will be promoted in lower-or-come settlements and public buildings and water mist systems will be installed in bus stops, traffic signals and crowded areas. Heat stroke wards will be built in government hospitals and doctors and nursing staff will be trained on emergency treatment and cooling techniques.
Apart from this, public awareness campaign will also be run by the Delhi government and in Hindi, English and other local languages, information will be given about the measures to prevent heat from the heat through posters, pamphlets and radio jingles, along with the help of Asha Worker, RWA and NGOs, awareness will be increased at the community level.
Special attention on those working in the field
Under the heat action plan, the Delhi government has paid special attention to the safety of workers and those working on the field. According to the plan, the working hours of construction workers, traffic police and street vendors will be changed, so that the extreme heat between 12 noon and 4 pm can be avoided.
Such arrangements will be made at bus stations
Also, shady places and drinking water have been made mandatory in the places of work. It has been told in the plan that the Delhi government is going to use cool roof technology in Vivekananda Bus Terminal, Anand Vihar Bus Terminal, Maharana Pratap Bus Terminal and Delhi Secretariat, so that the temperature inside the buildings can be reduced and the common people get relief.
Today, the Delhi government released the heat action plan in the Delhi Secretariat, which included Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, Water Minister Pravesh Verma, Health and Transport Minister Dr. Pankaj Singh and NDMA officials. The head of the Department of NDMA said that today heat action plans of 11 districts are being released. These are not only administrative steps but life saving steps.
He said that this action plan is an important step towards the vision of the Prime Minister. All the people have been urged to download the ‘Conscious App’ so that the initial warning of the disaster can be found. The NDMA official said that today’s program is being done before the heatwave so that preparations can be ensured in advance. So far, heat action plans of 23 states of the country have been prepared and 250 districts are working on it. NDMA aims to make heat action plan of every district by next year.
‘Orders were also given to hospitals’
Implementing the Heatwave Action Plan, Delhi Health Minister Dr. Pankaj Singh said that the situation of heatwave has been seen in Delhi in the last few years and in such a situation, the heat action plan is an effective plan to deal with any disaster. He said that under the plan, all hospitals of Delhi have been ordered to arrange for treatment of people affected by heat and special wards should be made for heat. Apart from this, arrangements will be made to treat such patients in ICU.
He informed that all ambulance drivers have been instructed to keep cold water and ice pack in the ambulance. He also told that any person suffering from heatwave can call 102 number for free treatment.
‘Work done seriously on water management’
PWD and Water Minister Pravesh Verma said that the book of heat action plan is very thick. He said that the government has been formed for only two months and within this two months, work has been done seriously on water management and conservation.
He said that it is often heard in Delhi whether there is a shortage of water or no water is available from neighboring states, but this is not correct. Water is available properly but earlier it was ruined and stolen. He informed that now the Delhi government has installed GPS in water tankers and sensors will also be installed soon. He said that the most important thing to avoid heat is water and it is not only for humans but also for animals and birds. He urged Delhiites to keep water for animals and birds in their homes.
‘Water will be installed on the roads’
Pravesh Verma also informed that the Delhi government will now install water ATMs on all the roads of PWD and will be installed in all government schools and buildings in Delhi, which will get RO water and cold water. He said that as the Prime Minister had formed Sabarmati River Front, a river front is being built on the banks of river Yamuna in Delhi.
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said that the highest 52.9 degree Celsius temperature in the entire country has been recorded in Delhi. He said that there is waterlogging in rain in Delhi, pollution occurs in winter and heatwave in summer. In such a situation, when to enjoy the weather of Delhi?
Will install 3 thousand water coolers
He promised Delhiites that from next year the people of Delhi will be able to enjoy every season. The Chief Minister said that if the most heat is in Delhi in the whole of India, then the maximum preparation should also be in Delhi. The NDMA has given a detailed plan and is being implemented. The Chief Minister also informed that the Delhi government will install three thousand water coolers. One thousand water cooler on the road, one thousand in government buildings and one thousand in far-flung areas. He said that the paths through which people walk need shade, so the government will install cooling shelters and will also improve the bus stop.
