England To 'Block' Players From IPL 2025 Playoffs, Orders Reporting For 1st WI ODI- News18 – News18
The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has decided to prevent its players from featuring in the IPL 2025 playoffs amid its clash with England’s ODI series against the West Indies. The board has ordered all players to be present with the team before the first ODI on May 29.
IPL 2025 was originally supposed to end on May 25, but had to be halted in the middle due to cross-border tensions between India and Pakistan, which raised security concerns. The England-West Indies ODI series will now clash with the rescheduled final quarter of the T20 league (May 17-June 3). The date of the first ODI is the same as for the playoffs — with the first Qualifier likely to be scheduled in Mumbai.
Five stars are part of both an IPL 2025 side and the ODI team — Jofra Archer (Rajasthan Royals), Jacob Bethell (Royal Challengers Bengaluru), Jos Buttler (Gujarat Titans), Will Jacks (Mumbai Indians) and Jamie Overton (Chennai Super Kings). Out of these, RR and CSK are already out of contention for the playoffs.
According to ESPNcricinfo, Buttler is likely to be available for GT’s initial matches in the rescheduled season, which would suggest that he’d fly back just before the playoffs. It remains to be seen the impact it has on the teams’ seasons. For example, Buttler has been a key cog to Titans’ top-three heavy formula, while Jacks has been one of the best all-rounders for MI this season.
Meanwhile, PTI has reported that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) top brass has instructed IPL COO Hemang Amin to individually speak to the likes of Cricket Australia (CA) and ECB to allay the concerns that the players may have about returning to India.

“We have been speaking to the foreign boards individually while teams are directly dealing with their players. We expect majority of them to return," a BCCI official told PTI on Tuesday.
