Regarding this building, Dr. Sunny Kumar, Professor of History at Deshbandhu College, Delhi University, says that Zafar Mahal, located in Mehrauli area of South Delhi, is considered to be the last monument built in the Mughal period. The construction of this palace was first started in 1820 by the Mughal Emperor Akbar Shah II. Later in 1848, the last Mughal Emperor Bahadur Shah Zafar got it rebuilt. Dr. Sunny Kumar explains that this campus is divided into two parts, one part was built by Akbar Shah II and the other part was built by Bahadur Shah Zafar, also known as “Elephant Gate”. Many domes were also built near the palace. At the same time, there is also the dargah of the famous Sufi saint Khwaja Qutubuddin near this palace, due to which the Mughal emperors often used to come and go there.

The professor further stated that the Zafar Mahal was a great place for the Mughal emperors to celebrate summer vacation, where all the kings used to come here during the summer days. Royal courts, poetic seminars and other cultural programs were organized here. This Zafar Mahal is built from red sandstone. If we talk about its architecture, then it gets a beautiful glimpse of the Mughal style, which is especially seen in domes and doors.
