In a development that can send shockwaves among the cricket fans, legendary Australian allrounder Glenn Maxwell has decided not to put his name in the IPL 2026 auction list. The IPL auction is all set to take place in Abu Dhabi on December 16, and as per an ESPNCricinfo report, Maxwell’s name is not on the list of players who will go under the hammer.
Glenn Maxwell played a pivotal role for Royal Challengers Bengaluru during his brief stint with the franchise. However, one poor season that saw him average less than ten runs per game forced the defending champions to release Maxwell to the auction pool.
Although he was purchased by the Punjab Kings in the 2025 mega auction, Maxwell’s underwhelming returns led to his exclusion from the retention list of the finalists.
According to ESPNCricinfo, Maxwell hasn’t registered for the IPL mini auction after being released by Punjab Kings, which is why we might not see him play the 2026 edition. Maxwell had a roller-coaster ride in the IPL, scoring 2819 runs and scalping 41 wickets across 141 matches from 2012 to 2025.
As reported earlier, 1355 cricketers have registered their names for the IPL 2026 mini auction, where franchises will be tasked to fill 77 slots, including 31 overseas, through strategic purchases. Australian allrounder Cameron Green has decided to participate in the auction and could be one of the most expensive buys heading to the IPL 2026.
The list of 1355 players will further be trimmed after the ten concerned franchises submit their wishlists to the IPL on or before December 5. As the report states, 45 players have set a base price of INR 2 crores, as listed below.
Ravi Bishnoi, Venkatesh Iyer, Mujeeb ur Rahman, Naveen ul Haq, Sean Abott, Ashton Agar, Cooper Connolly, Jake Fraser-McGurk, Cameron Green, Josh Inglis, Steve Smith, Mustafizur Rahman, Gus Atkinson, Tom Banton, Tom Curran, Liam Dawson, Ben Duckett, Dan Lawrence, Liam Livingstone, Tymal Mills, Jamie Smith, Finn Allen, Michael Bracewell, Devon Conway, Jacob Duffy, Matt Henry, Kyle Jamieson, Adam Milne, Daryll Mitchell, Will O’Rourke, Rachin Ravindra, Gerald Coetzee, David Miller, Lungi Ngidi, Anrich Nortje, Rilee Roussouw, Tabraiz Shamsi, David Wiese, Wanindu Hasaranga, Mateesha Pathirana, Maheesh Theekshana, Jason Holder, Shai Hope, Akeal Hosein, Alzarri Joseph
