Maxwell has been one of the most popular overseas players in the IPL for more than a decade
Udaipur, Dec 02, 2025: Star Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell confirmed on social media that he has not registered for the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 auction. In an emotional post, Maxwell thanked the IPL and said the league has played a major role in shaping him “as a cricketer and as a person.”
Maxwell has been one of the most popular overseas players in the IPL for more than a decade. However, after being released by Punjab Kings (PBKS), he has decided not to enter the auction this year.
Maxwell Reflects on His IPL Journey
Maxwell said the IPL helped him grow both on and off the field. He thanked fans for their unmatched support and said that the memories and energy of India will always stay with him. He also hinted that he hopes to return in the future in some form.
The Australian all-rounder is the latest big name to skip the IPL 2026 mini auction. Faf du Plessis and Moeen Ali have also chosen not to register. There is now curiosity about whether Maxwell might explore opportunities in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2026.
Maxwell scored 2,819 runs in 141 IPL matches at a strike rate of over 155 but an average of 24. During his career, he played for Punjab Kings, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Mumbai Indians, and Delhi Capitals. He won the IPL title once, in 2013, as part of the Mumbai Indians squad.
He was signed by PBKS for ₹4.2 crore for the IPL 2025 season. In that season he struggled to play due to injuries and inconsistent form. The franchise did not retain him for IPL 2026.
Over the years, Maxwell was among the highest earners at the auction. His biggest contract came in 2021 when RCB bought him for ₹14.25 crore. He was also the highest-paid player in the IPL 2013 auction, signed by MI. His run average did not do justice to the price he has commanded in the IPL.
