Gujarat Titans (GT) are set to take on Mumbai Indians (MI) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 Eliminator match at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur, Chandigarh, on Friday, 30 May. With both teams needing a win to progress to Qualifier 2 on 1 June, concerns about potential rain disruptions have surfaced after intermittent rainfall in Mullanpur last night.
In the event of rain, BCCI has set up guidelines for each playoff matches, including the Eliminator. Let’s have a look at the various guidelines for the GT vs MI, IPL 2025 match to continue in case of rainfall, and what happens if it gets washed out.
As per IPL guidelines, a minimum of five overs per side is required for the match to be considered official. The cut-off time for starting a five-over per side match is 11:56 PM IST – which is almost four-and-a-half hours after the actual start time.
However, in case rain does not stop and results in the match being abandoned, IPL has no designated reserve day for the Eliminator to be replayed, unlike the final. As a result, in the case of a rain washout, Gujarat Titans, having secured a better position than Mumbai Indians during the league phase, would move on to Qualifier 2.
Despite the lack of a reserve day, fans can be assured that there is little chance of rain playing spoilsport during the Eliminator match.
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasts show that Mullanpur may experience partly cloudy skies, with a slight chance of brief rain or thundershowers in certain areas, but as per AccuWeather, there’s a 0% chance of rain during the match.
The match between Gujarat Titans and Mumbai Indians is scheduled to begin at 7:30 PM IST on 30 May.
