Siraj is back. Two runs so far in three balls. Good over, four runs off it.
Prasidh. Two singles off the first two balls. Followed by three dot balls. Two singles from that over.
Tushar Deshpande is the new man in.
Sai Kishore continues. Theekshana slogs straight to deep midwicket. RR is nine down now.
Sandeep Sharma is the last man in. Gets an inside edge and runs double.
Prasidh. Four! Outside off stump and Hetmyer sweetly times his cover drive. That brings up his fifty off 29 balls. He miscues a slot straight down the ground, Gill runs but isn’t able to reach it. OUT! Archer is gone. Length ball, Archer gets a leading edge straight to mid off.
Maheesh Theekshana is the new man in. He takes a single. OUT! Hetmyer is gone as well. Short ball and Hetmyer pulls it straight deep square leg. He falls after scoring a fighting 52 off 32 balls.
Sai Kishore into the attack for the first time today. Starts off with a wide. Hetmyer miscues his slog and the deep cover fielder running in isn’t able to grab it. In the slot and Hetmyer slaps the ball over long on for a SIX! 12 runs from the over.
Rashid for his final over. An LBW appeal against Dubey but umpire says not out. Gill refuses to take the review. OUT! This time Dubey is struck in front and umpire give it. Dubey has reviewed now. Three reds! Dubey has to go. He falls for just 1.
Jofra Archer is in. RR still needs 99 runs off 40 balls. Four! Hetmyer is still fighting. He slog sweeps for four towards square leg. Archer plays a cover drive that gets him a double.
Prasidh is back. OUT! Samson is gone. Tries to cut but gets a thick outside edge straight to short third. Skipper departs after scoring 41 off 28 balls.
Shubham Dubey at the crease now. Off the mark with a single. Hetmyer steals a double towards leg side. Four runs and a wicket in that over.
Rashid with his third over. Hetmyer? More like the Hitman! He smacks it down the ground for a SIX! FOUR! Very loose bowling from the tweaker who sends a ball down the leg side and Hetmyer swivels to send the ball towards the boundary.
GT was 94/2 at this stage.
Khejroliya with his third over. In the blockhole there! Kulwant is really being impactful here, why he was brought on! FOUR! Spoke too soon, oops! Hetmyer taking the game to the Titans as he finds the gap on the leg side to find the boundary. SIX! Samson shows his class as he sends the ball sailing over mid-wicket! And FOUR! Samson enters his forties. 100 up for the chasing side.
Rashid continues and Hetmyer smacks him for a SIX over cow corner!
Khejroliya continues. Another great over, just five runs off it.
Rashid Khan with his first over. AND HE STRIKES! It’s Jurel whose stay at the crease is shortlived as he tries to clear mid-wicket but a googly helps as the batter holes out to Sudharsan in the deep.
Jurel 5 (4) c Sudharsan b Rashid
Appeal on the first ball after the wicket! Shimron Hetmyer is hit on the pads and Titans go for the review. And it’s pitching outside leg. The batter stays on.
Impact sub Kulwant Khejroliya with his first over. OUT! Impact has been felt! But wait a second. Riyan has reviewed the on-field umpire’s decision on the caught behind. And indeed it is out! The ultra edge shows a spike and the batter has to walk back. He perhaps is arguing that the spike was from the bat hitting the ground but no change in the decision.
Riyan 26 (14) c Buttler b Kulwant
Dhruv Jurel pulls a shorter ball for a FOUR!
Prasidh Krishna replaces Arshad Khan. And the bowler is welcomed with a SIX! Riyan flicks it and clears the fence with ease. A couple of singles and Riyan tries to scoop it but misses. Ball down the leg stump and the slightest of touches helps Riyan found the boundary for a FOUR!
Siraj continues and Parag smashes one out of the ground with ease! He times the shot and hits a SIX over long on! The bowler controls the proceedings for the moment with a couple of dot balls. And Samson snatches it back with a FOUR! He sends the full toss delivery through deep mid-wicket. A dot to end the over.
Arshad continues. And straight off, there’s a shout for a caught behind. But the skipper and the ‘keeper don’t take the review. It was Samson on strike. And next ball, FOUR! Samson gets the help of a fortuitous edge to send the ball racing to the ropes. SIX! Samson follows it up with a huge hit over the covers. Seamless Samson! He casually plays a drive front of point to hit a FOUR!
Siraj continues. OUT! WHAT IS HAPPENING!? Siraj strikes again in the PowerPlay for the Titans as he forces Nitish Rana to ramp over third man but the batter instead holes out!
Nitish 1 (3) c Kulwant b Siraj
SIX! That’s some way to get off the mark! After two dot balls, Riyan Parag almost plays a half-helicopter shot to deposit the ball over mid-wicket for a maximum!
Arshad Khan with his first over. A single to get the over going. OUT! Jaiswal swings big at a delivery wide of the off stump, trying to clear the fence over backward point, but Rashid Khan is there to take catch. Early breakthrough for the Titans!
Jaiswal 6 (7) c Rashid b Arshad
Brilliant over from the pacer!
Mohamed Siraj with the first over. And that’s a wide. Yashasvi Jaiswal and Sanju Samson at the crease. And that’s a FOUR! Jaiswal drives through point to find the boundary. Too many wides! That’s the third one in this over alone! Siraj just not being able to get the line right. Two runs to end the over and Samson will take strike in the next.
Sandeep Sharma. Tewatia lofts the ball over mid off for four! A dot off the second ball. Wide ball. SIX! Tewatia slog sweeps over midwicket! Superb shot. Tewatia ends the over with a four! Sweeps towards backward square leg.
Deshpande. OUT! Sudharsan is gone. Tries to slog but gets an under edge straight to keeper. He falls after scoring 82 off 53 balls.
Rashid Khan. He comes down the track off the very first ball and launches the ball over long on for a SIX! Bouncer, Rashid somehow connects the ball and goes over short fine leg for four. He takes a double and that’s 200-up for GT! OUT! Rashid shuffles across the off stumps and swipes the ball towards square leg and the fielder inside the circle dives to the right and grabs it! Terrific catch by Jaiswal there.
Archer is back. Full toss and Rewatia gets a top edge for a SIX over keeper! A good comeback by Archer in the rest of the over. DROPPED! Sudharsan pulls the ball straight to deep square leg but the fielder there isn’t able to grab it.
Sandeep. OUT! Rutherford is gone. Too wide outside off, Rutherford chases it and gets an edge straight to keeper.
Rahul Tewatia at the crease now. He takes a single off the first ball. SIX! Sudharsan slashes over deep cover! The ball went just over the fielder. Another four! This time over cover. Two singles to end the over.
Theekshana for his final over. Sudharsan begins the over with a lofted drive over covers for four! Sudharsan comes down the track, misses the down the leg delivery and Samson isn’t able to collect it as well. Batters steal a single but it would have been close had the throw hit the stumps! Eventful delivery. OUT! Shahrukh is gone. He comes down the track, Theekshana bowls away from him and Samson does the rest of the job to stump him. Shahrukh goes after a quickfire 36 off 20 balls.
Sherfane Rutherford is the new man in. He begins with a huge six over long on!! First ball monstrous six.
Sandeep for his second over. Wonderful over, just five singles came in that over.
Theekshana. SIX! Shahrukh Khan pulls the length ball over midwicket region. Superb strike that. Four more! Opens the blade and the ball goes in between backward point and short third. Another four! This time he slashes past backward point. An appeal for stumping against Shahrukh. Foot is grounded, Shahrukh survives.
Deshpande. Four! Short ball and he upper cuts it wide of deep third fielder. Shahrukh Khan trying to find ways to score boundaries. He connects this time! Launches the ball over cover for SIX! Powerful hit. Good over for Gujarat, 14 runs off it.
Farooqi. Two boundaries to start with: first an under edge for four behind keeper and then a flicks towards square leg region. 10 runs from the over.
Archer is back. He’s bowling quick and into the pitch. Good over, just six runs came in that over including a double off the last ball.
Theekshana. Sudharsan sweeps hard and in front of deep midwicket for four! Fifty for Sudharsan off just 32 balls. LBW appeal against Buttler but umpire is unmoved. Rajasthan reviews. Three reds! Buttler has to go. Buttler falls for 36 off 25 balls.
Tushar Deshpande. Buttler pushes the ball towards leg side and steals a double. Seven runs from the over.
Maheesh Theekshana with his first over and spin is brought in. Wide from the first ball. FOUR! Great placement and timing from Buttler as he plays a backfoot punch towards deep extra cover. FOUR! Buttler stands and delivers as he smacks it down the ground.
Farooqi returns, replacing Deshpande. The GT batters seem to have slowed down, just hitting the ball to deep for singles. A swing and a miss from Buttler as he steps away from the stumps and tries to pull. FOUR! Next ball, the Englishman doesn’t make any mistake! But this time, he bends down and ramps it past the short fine leg fielder, who’s left a spectator. And Buttler ends the over with another FOUR as he pulls across to send the ball racing through square.
Sandeep Sharma replaces Farooqi for the last over in PowerPlay. Just a wide and a single for now. Tight bowling from Sandeep. Haven’t given the batters too much room to free their arms, yet. Great over to finish the PP from the Royals’ perspective.
Tushar Deshpande replaces Archer. A wide to start but a body ball to Sai. SIX! Great inventive batting there from Sai Sudharsan as he quickly moves across the off stump and scoops it over the short fine leg fielder for a maximum! FOUR! Sudharsan is in great nick as he times it to perfection to send the ball straight down the ground. Archer chases behind but the sphere races to the ropes. FOUR! A cut through backward point from Sudharsan to end the over! Eighteen runs from it.
Farooqi continues from the other end. Bowls a bit wider to the right-handed Buttler and a dot ball. What a shot! The bowler unleashes a short ball and Sai lofts it over the short third fielder for a SIX! A dot to end the over.
Archer continues. AND FIRST BALL, HE CASTLES GILL! The batter tries to play it down the ground but the ball ever so slightly moves into the batter and skittles the off stump.
Shubman 2 (3) b Archer
Oof! That’s a bouncer if there ever was! Probably a first warning for the height but a dot ball. There’s a short leg fielder in IPL!? And Jos Buttler drives it well for a FOUR! A dot to end the over.
Fazalhaq Farooqi with his first over. A single on the first ball. Couple of dots to follow, but Sai smacks a FOUR in the next! Wide of the off stump from the left-arm pacer as the left-handed batter slices it through point. Great ball to end the over, in that corridor of uncertainty.
And it’s Jofra Archer with the first over, hoping to dent the Titans’ top order. Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan open for GT. First ball and the pacer almost forces Sai to knick one behind to Sanju Samson behind the stumps. Next ball, the batter tries to play it through point but misses. Gujarat Titans is off the blocks as Sai takes a quick single to give Shubman the strike. A tasty matchup this, Archer vs Gill. Let’s see what happens this evening. Wide! That’s a bouncer, and that too down the leg side. Samson has to jump to gather the ball. Ball coming into Gill’s body as the India international takes a single. Close! Sai tries to flick it through the leg side but the ball gets his pads. However, no review taken by the bowling side. FOUR! Short ball and Sai pulls but a top edge helps the ball race to fine deep third for GT’s first boundary!
They say it is a red soil pitch. There is a tinge of green grass. But it is going to be a super batting surface. We have seen some high scores and you need a big score if you bat first. Bat first, put a massive total on the board and put pressure. 220 is the par total here, reckon Pommie Mbwanga and Simon Katich.
