President of the Hyderabad Cricket Association, Jagan Mohan Rao, was arrested on Wednesday, July 9, by the CID in Hyderabad in relation to allegations pressed on him over t during the 2025 edition of the Indian Premier League at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium. A recent probe revealed certain discrepancies in how the tickets were allocated, in addition to the issues with the association’s governance during the tournament.
Allegations have also been made that Rao and other top HCA officials applied pressure on Sunrisers Hyderabad for surplus tickets and tickets for personal sale, which involved a black-marketing activity. The franchise has also accused Rao of coercion and blackmail, claiming that he had gone as far as locking the corporate box at the venue a few hours before a match.
Ahead of the tournament, SRH and HCA had reached a consensus to maintain 3,900 complimentary passes as the limit. SRH have also appealed to the BCCI and the tournament’s governing council to intervene and address the issue created by Rao-led state association.
To resolve the matter, HCA Secretary R. Devraj had arranged a meeting with SRH’s officials at the home venue. Three SRH representatives—Kiran, Saravanan, and Rohit Suresh were present for the discussions.
“During the discussions, SRH proposed strictly adhering to the existing tri-party agreement between SRH, HCA, and BCCI, ensuring that 10% of the available stadium capacity across all sections is allocated accordingly. HCA, in turn, proposed maintaining the existing allocation of passes in each category, in line with the long-standing practice followed over the years. Following in-depth discussions and further telephonic deliberations with SRH CEO Mr. Shanmugam, the following resolution was agreed upon: the category allocation of 3900 complimentary passes to HCA will remain unchanged, consistent with established practice,” the joint statement made by SRH and HCA read, as quoted by NDTV Sports.
The runners-up of the 2024 instalment did not really fare well in IPL 2025. They ended up finishing sixth with six wins, seven losses, and one game being called a no-result due to persistent showers. With 13 points on the table, they ended with a net run rate of -0.241.
