The Indian Premier League (IPL 2025) is set to resume on May 17 following a ceasefire agreement between India and Pakistan. The cash-rich league was temporarily suspended after tensions between the two nuclear-armed neighbours intensified.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) suspended the league for a week. However, the resumption has been announced sooner than expected after the two countries agreed to stop hostilities along the border.

According to the press release, the Indian cricket board decided to resume the remainder of the tournament following an “extensive consultation with government and security agencies and with all the key stakeholders.”
As per the BCCI, the remaining 17 matches will be played across six venues: Delhi, Bengaluru, Ahmedabad, Jaipur, Lucknow, and Mumbai. Four of these 17 matches will be part of the IPL 2025 playoffs, venues for which have yet to be decided. The revised schedule includes two double headers. The final will be played on June 3.

According to the original schedule, the IPL 2025 final was supposed to be played at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata – the home of defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). However, a Cricbuzz report suggests that the BCCI will likely shift the summit clash from Kolkata to the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
The decision has nothing to do with the India-Pakistan conflict, but the upcoming monsoon cycle. According to weather forecasts, the weather in Kolkata looks gloomy, and the City of Joy is expected to receive heavy rainfall on the day of the final.

Hence, Kolkata will most likely to lose the two playoff matches, including the final, that were supposed to be held there. The BCCI is keeping a close eye on the arrival of the monsoon. The final decision will be taken accordingly.
