The IPL 2025 season gets underway on Saturday, March 22. There will be a total of 70 league matches played and then four subsequent playoff games. The culmination of the playoff phase will be the Final, which takes place on Sunday, May 25.
Ahead of the IPL 2025 season, the Mega Auction was held on November 24 & 25 last year. During the auction, the record for the most expensive player was broken twice. First, last year's winning Kolkata captain, Shreyas Iyer, was sold to Punjab for ₹26.75 crore rupees (US$3.1 million), before Rishabh Pant was bought by Lucknow for ₹27 crore (US$3.1 million). Amazingly, Vaibhav Suryavanshi became the youngest player sold in IPL history at the age of 13 years, when he was bought by Rajasthan for ₹1.1 crore (US$130,000). Of those players staying put, Heinrich Klaasen became the most expensive retained player in IPL history for ₹23 crore (US$2.7 million).
