"I don't like the word sold in IPL auction": Robin Uthappa bats for some respectability for players – Crictoday

Lifeline of Cricket
Players are sold to franchises across T20 leagues in the world, and the Indian Premier League is no different. It is the best tournament in the world, and the cricketers are paid in millions. Rishabh Pant became the most expensive player when Lucknow Super Giants paid INR 27 crore for the southpaw. Shreyas Iyer went to Punjab Kings for INR 26.75 crore. However, former India and Chennai Super Kings player Robin Uthappa doesn’t like the word sold and is hoping to see some respectability in the future.
He commented during the SRH vs LSG IPL 2025 match at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium. Harbhajan Sigh and Uthappa were discussing the dynamics of the IPL auctions and why the whole process is unfair to the cricketers.
“IPL is very unfair at times as good players don’t get franchises. A player like Shardul Thakur went unsold in the auction,” Harbhajan Singh said.
“It is unfair most of the time,” Uthappa replied. Uthappa also spoke about the word sold. “I don’t like the word sold. I hope there will be something respectable in the future,” he added.
Thakur was signed by LSG as an injury replacement for Mohsin Khan. He was included in the playing XI in the first two games against Delhi Capitals and Sunrisers Hyderabad.
