Raisina dialogue 2025: Congress MP Shashi Tharoor has now given a new reaction to his objection to India’s neutral policy during the Russia-Ukraine War. He admitted that his previous criticism regarding India’s policy proved to be wrong and in today’s situation, this policy seems to be successful. He said, ‘I am still erasing the stains on my face, because I was the only person in the parliamentary debate who criticized the Indian situation in February 2022 on the basis of international charter and violation of principles.’

In a conversation during the Raisina dialogue, Shashi Tharoor said that when the Russia-Ukraine War started, he criticized India’s stance and described it as a violation of international charters and principles, but now after three years he feels that this policy of India has brought the country to a strong diplomatic position.

India’s strategy increased diplomatic strength

Shashi Tharoor said, ‘India’s policy made it possible that our Prime Minister could embrace both the President of Ukraine and the President of Russia in two weeks and India should be accepted in both countries.’ According to him, this situation gives India an opportunity to play an important role in establishing global peace, which is achieved by very few countries of the world.

Earlier criticism of India’s policy

At the beginning of the Russia-Ukraine war, Shashi Tharoor was a major critic of India’s diplomatic neutrality towards Russia and the policy of buying oil from Russia. He had described it as morally wrong and demanded India to openly condemn the attack on Ukraine, but now that this policy of India has enabled him to maintain friendly relations with the two countries, he admitted about his previous criticism that they have proved wrong.

He also said that this attitude of India can make him an important player in the global peace process. India’s situation is such that if needed, it can play an important role in furthering peace talks between Russia and Ukraine.
