Quick-commerce emerged as the dominant fulfilment channel during the tournament. Bengaluru topped the chart with 3.47 lakh quick-commerce deliveries
New Delhi: As Royal Challengers Bengaluru secured their first-ever IPL title, another major development was unfolding in the world of e-commerce. A report released by logistics intelligence platform ClickPost reveals how IPL 2025 significantly impacted consumer shopping behaviour and logistics performance across 13 host cities, based on data from over 70 million shipments.
According to the report, the average order value during the IPL season (March 22 – June 3) surged to ₹1,008, more than three times the pre-season baseline of ₹309. The data suggests a sharp rise in purposeful, match-time-driven shopping activity among consumers, reflecting a strong correlation between cricket engagement and e-commerce.
Quick Commerce Leads the Surge
Quick-commerce emerged as the dominant fulfilment channel during the tournament. Bengaluru topped the chart with 3.47 lakh quick-commerce deliveries, followed by Delhi with 2.78 lakh orders. The findings indicate that consumers increasingly rely on ultra-fast delivery options that match the pace and spontaneity of match-day moments.
Deliveries Inside Stadium Zones Show Mixed Results
Notably, delivery success rates remained high even in the high-congestion zones around stadiums. Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium area reported a 70% success rate during major matches, including RCB vs MI and MI vs CSK. Chennai’s Chepauk Stadium zone held steady at 60%. However, stadium zones in other cities posed greater challenges. Delhi’s Arun Jaitley Stadium area recorded a success rate of just over 22%, while Visakhapatnam and Guwahati faced city-wide fulfilment hurdles, with success rates dipping as low as 9 to 15%.
High-Volume Weekends and Top-Selling Categories
The report highlights major order spikes during key weekends such as April 5–7 and May 4–5, where cities witnessed over 30% increases in delivery attempts. Consumers largely opted for practical and match-friendly items such as T-shirts, lip balms, and BPA-free bottles. Premium product categories, including cosmetics, health supplements, and fashion kits, saw the highest average order values, showing that shoppers were willing to spend more during peak match moments.
City-wise Performance Highlights
Kolkata emerged as a strong performer with an 81% delivery success rate and one of the lowest complaint volumes in the country. Delhi processed over 75,000 delivery reattempts, with 71% successfully fulfilled the very next day. Mumbai, despite high match-day congestion, maintained a 73.3% delivery success rate. Bengaluru, in addition to winning the IPL title, also dominated quick-commerce with the highest volume and a 72% success rate.
Return Rates Correlate with Match Excitement
Return-to-Origin (RTO) rates spiked significantly on high-intensity match days, particularly April 21 (GT vs KKR), April 27 (MI vs LSG & DC vs RCB), and May 3–4 (RCB vs CSK & KKR vs RR). The report attributes this to sudden plan changes, delivery timing mismatches, and general consumer distraction during match hours.
Recommendations for Brands in IPL 2026
ClickPost’s report offers key recommendations for e-commerce and logistics stakeholders:
Schedule campaigns and deliveries strategically around match timings
Geo-fence stadiums and high-traffic areas to improve rider planning and routing
Curate match-relevant merchandise such as fan gear and personal care items
Prepare for both impulse orders and high-value carts
Invest heavily in quick-commerce infrastructure, which has now become central to IPL-driven demand
ClickPost concludes that IPL 2025 served as a real-time test of India’s e-commerce and logistics capabilities. From ultra-fast deliveries to stadium-side order fulfilment, the performance of logistics networks during the tournament demonstrated the increasing maturity and agility of the ecosystem. The report stresses the importance of match-aware logistics planning in shaping future consumer experiences.
