IPL 2025: How much do umpires earn in the Indian Premier League? – Firstpost

The Indian Premier League (IPL) is one of the richest cricket tournaments in the world, and it’s not just the players who earn big money. The umpires also make a good amount of money for officiating the matches.
According to a report by India Today, the on-field umpires in IPL 2025 earn Rs 3 lakh per match. The fourth umpires, who help with off-field decisions and other duties, get Rs 2 lakh per match.
In comparison, each player, including the ones who come in as impact players, get a match fee of Rs 7.5 lakh per game in IPL 2025. This match fee is separate from the salary the players get from their teams based on their contracts.
Meanwhile, the umpiring in IPL 2025 hasn’t been at its best. The issue of bad umpiring came into the spotlight recently during a strange incident involving Ishan Kishan in the match between Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Mumbai Indians (MI).
SRH batter Kishan tried to glance a ball from pacer Deepak Chahar that was drifting down the leg side. The ball was safely caught by MI wicketkeeper Ryan Rickelton, but neither Rickelton nor Chahar made any serious appeal for a catch.
On-field umpire Vinod Seshan looked ready to signal it as a wide. But surprisingly, Kishan started walking off, thinking he had edged the ball. Seeing Kishan walk, Seshan also raised his finger and gave him out. He looked absolutely clueless while making the decision.
Fairplay or facepalm? 🤯

However, replays showed that the ball had actually missed Kishan’s bat completely, and the UltraEdge technology confirmed that there was no spike, meaning there was no contact. It was a brain-fade moment for Kishan but what the umpire did was unbelievable.
