In a stunning display of aggressive batting, young talent Priyansh Arya etched his name in the Indian Premier League (IPL) record books by scoring the fastest century ever against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the Mullanpur stadium on April 8.
Not just this, Priyansh Arya’s blistering ton was also the second-fastest century recorded by a Punjab Kings player in the history of the lucrative league. The current record for the fastest century by a Punjab Kings batsman is held by David Miller, who reached the milestone in just 38 balls. Arya’s blistering innings saw him reach the century mark in a mere 39 balls.
It was also the second fastest hundred by an Indian player in IPL. The record for the fastest century by an Indian batsman in the IPL is held by Yusuf Pathan, who achieved the milestone in a mere 37 deliveries back in 2010.
Priyansh Arya’s lightning knock marks him as only the second batsman to score a century in the current IPL 2025 season. Ishan Kishan of Sunrisers Hyderabad is the other player who has reached the coveted three-figure mark this year.
Arya’s sensational century also places him in an exclusive group of players, making him only the eighth uncapped cricketer to achieve this feat in the history of the Indian Premier League. Acquired by Punjab Kings for Rs 3.8 crore during the IPL 2025 mega auction, Arya had shown glimpses of his potential with a solid 47 in his first outing against Gujarat Titans.  Â
However, his performances in the subsequent two matches saw him score only 8 runs against Lucknow Super Giants and a duck against Rajasthan Royals. In his record-breaking innings against Chennai Super Kings, Priyansh Arya was particularly aggressive against Matheesha Pathirana, whom he punished for three consecutive sixes before reaching his century with a boundary on the very next delivery.
