The IPL 2025 league stage drew to a thrilling close on Tuesday, locking in the top four contenders for what promises to be a blockbuster playoff phase. After weeks of high-octane action and fluctuating fortunes, the final standings were only confirmed on the last day of the group stage, reflecting the fiercely competitive nature of this season.
Punjab Kings emerged as the table-toppers, amassing 19 points, and will take on Royal Challengers Bengaluru in Qualifier 1 on Thursday at Mullanpur. This pivotal clash offers a direct route to the grand finale, with the winner booking their place in the title showdown on June 3.
Meanwhile, Gujarat Titans and Mumbai Indians claimed the third and fourth spots on the points table, respectively. These two heavyweights will meet in the Eliminator on May 30 in Ahmedabad. The stakes will be sky-high, as only the victor will advance to Qualifier 2, where they will face the loser of Qualifier 1 for a final shot at the championship match.
Qualifier 2, set for June 1 in Ahmedabad, will be a high-pressure, winner-takes-all contest. The team that prevails will earn the right to challenge the Qualifier 1 winner in the much-anticipated final, also scheduled to be held in Ahmedabad.
As the playoffs approach, anticipation is building among fans and pundits alike. Punjab, under the leadership of Shreyas Iyer, will be aiming to end their long wait for a maiden IPL title. Bengaluru, captained by Rajat Patidar, are equally hungry for their first-ever trophy, with the passionate support of their fanbase driving them forward.
Gujarat Titans, led by the dynamic Shubman Gill, will be eyeing their second title in just four seasons, while five-time champions Mumbai Indians, under the captaincy of Hardik Pandya, are determined to add a sixth trophy to their storied legacy.
With momentum, pressure, and history on the line, the upcoming playoff matches are set to deliver enthralling cricket. From tactical brilliance and power-packed performances to nail-biting finishes and moments of individual genius, the IPL 2025 playoffs promise to be a spectacle for the ages.
