The IPL 2025 Qualifier 2 between Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Mumbai Indians (MI) at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad started late due to rain, but the action was relentless once play commenced. PBKS won the toss and opted to bowl first, and young batter Naman Dhir’s exciting cameo helped MI post a strong total of 203/6.
Coming in during the final overs, Dhir scored a quickfire 37 runs off just 18 balls. He struck seven boundaries at an impressive strike rate of 205.55. His aggressive innings came to an end in the final over when Marcus Stoinis took a catch at extra cover off a wide yorker bowled by Azmatullah Omarzai.
By that point, MI had already lost key players such as Rohit Sharma (8 off 7), Jonny Bairstow (38 off 24), Tilak Varma (44 off 29), and Suryakumar Yadav (44 off 26). Skipper Hardik Pandya also departed early, scoring just 15 off 13 balls. However, when Dhir stepped in, he played with fearless intent.
He wasted no time settling in, attacking the bowlers from the outset. His strokeplay was elegant yet powerful, and he made scoring look effortless. He was particularly aggressive against Arshdeep Singh and Azmatullah Omarzai, making it difficult for Punjab to contain the run flow in the death overs.
After another impressive show with the bat, Naman now has 252 runs in IPL 2025 at an average of 31.50 and a strike rate of 182.60.
