IPL 2025 Qualifier 2: What Happens if PBKS vs MI is Washed Out by Rain?
June 1, 2025 — The highly anticipated IPL 2025 Qualifier 2 clash between Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Mumbai Indians (MI) is set to take place tonight at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. With a spot in the IPL 2025 final on the line, all eyes are on the weather forecast as rain threats loom over the crucial encounter.
According to weather.com, Ahmedabad is expected to experience hot and humid conditions, but there is a slight chance of rainfall around 5 PM, just before the scheduled start of the match. This has raised concerns among fans and experts about the possibility of the match being delayed or even washed out.
As per the IPL 2025 playing conditions, there is no reserve day for the Qualifier 2. If the match cannot be completed due to rain, the team that finished higher in the league stage will automatically progress to the final.
In this case:
Therefore, if the match is abandoned without a result, Punjab Kings will advance to the final to face Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) on June 3.
The rule is clear:
“If conditions do not permit a Super Over, or subsequent Super Overs within the time available to determine the winner, then the team which, at the end of the relevant regular season, finished in the higher position in the league will be deemed the winner of the relevant play-off match.”
To reduce the risk of match cancellations during the playoffs, the IPL governing council has added an extra two-hour window to facilitate the completion of matches in case of weather interruptions. This provision gives ground staff sufficient time to prepare the pitch and outfield for play, even after moderate rain delays.
While there’s a minor chance of showers before the match, the overall forecast is largely favourable. As a result, it’s unlikely that rain will fully wash out the game. However, a delayed start or a shortened match remains a possibility.
