At the half-way mark of the IPL encounter at the Sawai Mansigh Stadium on Monday (April 28, 2025) night, B. Sai Sudharsan may have felt he had done his bit. He had claimed back the orange cap from Virat Kohli, played another fine innings, and put on another big opening-wicket stand with his captain Shubman Gill. Gujarat Titans, for all practical purposes, seemed to have put enough runs on the board.
Sai Sudharsan felt his team had perhaps scored 10 more than the par score. In hindsight, even another 60 or 70 would not have been enough, considering what happened in the Rajasthan Royals innings.
Vaibhav Suryavanshi played an absolute blinder. The little dynamo from Bihar produced what must be one of cricket’s most astonishing innings by a teenager ever.
When something like that happens, there isn’t much the opposition can do. Except watch in grudging admiration, perhaps.
Sai Sudharshan admitted Suryavanshi was fantastic to watch. “The way he batted was tremendous, and fantastic to watch,” said the Tamil Nadu left-hander who has played quite a few eye-catching innings himself this season alone. “But maybe we could have bowled better to him, we could have gone wider, we could have not bowled into his arc.”
He said the team would bounce back. “We have a lot of areas to improve and we will improve in the next game,” he said. “One game doesn’t determine the way we play. We will take the positives and work on the negatives. We will come back in the next game for sure.”
