IPL 2025: Team India’s T20I skipper and MI’s dashing batter Suryakumar Yadav set become the skipper for the 1st match of the IPL 2025 against Chennai Super Kings on March 23.
The reason why SKY will be leading the side as Hardik was banned for one match for maintaining a slow over-rate in MI’s last match against Lucknow Super Giants in 2024-edition. Since it was Hardik’s third offence of the season, he was fined Rs. 30 lakh and handed a one-match ban, which has spilled over into this season’s opening game.
Surya is the current skipper of the Indian cricket team in the T20Is where his leading the side very well. Under his leadership, Team India is clinching every T20I series.
The MI Head coach Mahela Jayawardene confirmed that the Mumbai Indians camp were officially communicated about Hardik Pandya’s ban, confirming that the all-rounder will sit out the first game in Chennai.
“Yeah, Surya, obviously leads India as well. When I am not there, he is the ideal choice in this format (to lead). He is an exciting option as well,” Hardik Pandya said.
