IPL 2025 to resume next week after India-Pakistan agree to ceasefire, new schedule and venues to be announced soon – Firstpost

The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 will reportedly restart next week after India and Pakistan agreed to a full and immediate ceasefire on Saturday. This brought an end to four days of cross-border fighting between the two nuclear-armed nations. The BCCI had suspended IPL 2025 on Friday due to the situation, but things are now moving fast to get the league back on track.
According to reports, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has already started speaking informally to franchises and other important people connected to the IPL. The revised schedule could be announced in a couple of days. The BCCI had suspended the tournament for a week after the Punjab Kings vs Delhi Capitals match was disrupted mid-way due to security threat and had to be called off.
“The ceasefire has just been announced, we will have to assess the situation, and speak to the government before going ahead. The safety of everyone will be paramount and we will meet shortly and make a decision in the best interest of the game and the country. But we are confident,” a BCCI source was quoted as saying by Sportstar.
The Times of India has reported that the BCCI is scrambling to finalise the revised schedule and venues for the quick resumption of IPL 2025. As per the report, matches will be played pan-India except for Dharamsala. There is still a bit of uncertainty though, as many foreign players have already left India or are leaving by Saturday because of the security situation.
“Yes, the overseas players were panicking but it was more because of the airport shutdown and all. They patiently listened to the franchises and had full confidence but it was the fear of international airports getting shut which triggered a lot of panic,” a source following the developments told TOI.
It remains to be seen how soon the overseas players can return and what the final schedule and venues will look like. But for now, it appears that the BCCI is ready to resume IPL 2025 as soon as possible.
