IPL 2025 Updated Schedule Announced: 17 Matches, 6 Venues, Playoffs Begin May 29 — Key Details Inside
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has released the revised schedule for IPL 2025, confirming the tournament will resume on May 17 with Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) taking on Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. This follows a week-long suspension due to India-Pakistan border tensions, which also forced the abandonment of the Punjab Kings vs Delhi Capitals match in Dharamsala on May 8.
The remainder of the tournament will feature 17 matches, including two Sunday double-headers, spread across six cities—Bengaluru, Delhi, Jaipur, Lucknow, Mumbai, and Ahmedabad. The IPL 2025 final is set for June 3, while the playoff schedule is as follows:
Venues for the playoff matches will be announced in the coming days.
While there were earlier reports suggesting that the remainder of the tournament could be confined to southern venues such as Chennai, Hyderabad, and Bengaluru, the BCCI instead finalized a mix of locations across the country, excluding Chennai and Hyderabad.
With the tournament’s temporary halt, several overseas players have already exited India, raising concerns about their availability for the remaining matches. Their return is uncertain, especially given looming international commitments. The World Test Championship (WTC) Final, featuring top Test stars from Australia and South Africa, begins just a week after the IPL final, on June 11.
In its announcement, the BCCI thanked India’s armed forces for ensuring the safe resumption of the tournament after the security-related pause.
