IPL 2025: Senior Royal Challengers Bengaluru batter Virat Kohli has joked that he might come out of T20I retirement to play the LA Olympics in 2028. Kohli said to be an Olympic champion would be a magnificent feeling.
IPL 2025: Can India’s star batter Virat Kohli come out of his T20I retirement and feature during the 2028 Olympics, which will be held in Los Angeles? During an interaction on the RCB Innovation lab Indian sports summit, Virat talked about his plans of making a U-turn after announcing retirement from the shortest format and how participating during the quadrennial event was quite tempting.
The star India batter announced his retirement from the shortest format after helping India lift the 2024 T20 World Cup title. Besides him, Indian skipper Rohit Sharma and star all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja also announced their retirements.
Kohli was educated about his post-retirement plans and reckoned that he would like to travel more and that he doesn’t know what the future holds.

“I don’t know what I will be doing post-retirement. Recently, I asked a teammate the same question and got the same reply. Yeah, but there may be a lot of traveling,” Virat was quoted as saying at the RCB innovation lab Indian sports summit.
Virat Kohli to Participate in the Olympics?
Ex-cricketer Isa Guha took Kohli’s interview at the event and enquired him as to whether he would like to participate at the 2028 LA Olympics, where cricket would be making its debut after almost 100 years. The sports would be held in the shortest format as the current generation of players would be eyeing their first Olympic medal.
Talking about this topic, Kohli hilariously reacted that he would only play in one condition if the Men in Blue were there during the gold medal match.
Here’s how the conversation went between Virat Kohli and Isa Guha:
Virat Kohli on cricket’s inclusion in the Olympics:
“So many T20 leagues are played all over the world, and I think that IPL has played a massive role in that as well. It has brought cricket to a stage where it is part of the Olympics. It’s a great opportunity for some of our guys.”
Isa Guha:
“Can’t we coax you out of retirement?”
Virat Kohli:
“No. For the Olympics? Maybe? If we are playing for the gold medal, I may come back for one game (laughs). Get a medal and come back home. It is a great thing. To be an Olympic champion would be a magnificent feeling, the first of its kind.”
