post_image_8ef182e IPL 2026 auction likely to take place in mid-December, retention deadline set for November 15: Report - Circle Of CricketThe player auction for the 2026 edition of Indian Premier League (IPL) is likely to take place around December 13-15, Cricbuzz reported on Friday (October 10).
According to the report, all 10 teams will have to submit the list of retained players by November 15.
“The IPL 2026 auction is likely to be held in the second or third week of December, with December 13-15 emerging as the probable window," the report read.
“Additionally, there is no indication, at this stage, of the auction being taken overseas, as was the case in the last two editions – first in Dubai (2023) and then in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia (2024)," it added.
As per the available information, it won’t be a surprise if the BCCI decides to conduct the mini-auction in India itself.
Chennai Super Kings endured a dismal IPL 2025 campaign, finishing at the bottom of the points table, and the five-time champions are likely to release Deepak Hooda, Vijay Shankar, Rahul Tripathi, Sam Curran, and Devon Conway.
Former India spinner Ravichandran Ashwin, who was signed for Rs 9.75 crore by CSK in the IPL 2025 mega auction, has hung his boots from the cash-rich league, and hence, the franchise will have Rs 9.75 crore added to their auction purse.
Kolkata Knight Riders signed all-rounder Venkatesh Iyer for Rs 23.75 crore in last year’s grand auction, but he failed to justify the price tag. It remains to be seen if the KKR management retain him or part ways.
Among other players, Mohammad Shami, Glenn Maxwell, David Miller, T Natarajan, and Wanindu Hasaranga might also be released by their IPL 2025 franchises.
Australia’s Cameron Green has featured in the IPL for two teams – Mumbai Indians (in 2023) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (in 2024). He missed the 2025 edition due to injury but is now back in action. The lanky all-rounder is likely to be one of the top picks in the IPL 2026 auction.
