PBKS Auction Strategy: Punjab Kings (PBKS) performance in IPL 2025 was at its best with Australian legend Ricky Ponting joined as a head coach and Shreyas Iyer who was bought for a whooping Rs. 26.75 Cr, leading the team as a captain. 
After 11 years, they finished top in the league stage and played in the final as well. The team was so close to winning its first trophy but lost the game by just 6 runs against Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the end.
Skipper Shreyas Iyer stood tall and emerged as the leading run scorer for the team with 604 runs at an average of 50. His unbeaten knock of 87 in qualifier 2 against MI was one of the examples of his stealer performance. 
While Arshdeep emerged as the highest wicket taker with 21 wickets at an economy of 8.88. Some more players like Prabhsimran Singh, Priyansh Arya, Nehal Wadhera, Shashank Singh and Harpreet Brar delivered some great performances
Despite being at the top of the table, PBKS still needs to fill some loopholes from last year’s squad. Major one is finishing, except Shashank Singh, almost every finisher failed last season whether it is Glenn Maxwell, Azmatullah Omarzai or even Marcus Stoinis. 
Another problem is spin bowling, as last season they didn’t even have a single player who can partner with Harpreet Brar and Yuzwendra Chahal. The third pacer problem is also noticeable as last year their pace bowling was totally dependent on Arshdeep Singh.

So, a reliable finisher, a spin bowling all rounder and a dominant pacer is the need of the hour for Punjab based IPL franchise.
The players who they might target in the upcoming IPL Mini Auction 2026:
With Ponting in the helm, PBKS might go for this young all Aussie rounder. Connolly can bowl off spin and can hit long sixes when needed. While playing for Perth Scorchers in Big Bash League, he has some decent numbers as the finisher all rounder.
One more spin bowling all rounder from West Indies. He can solve finishing problems and can bowl brilliant left arm spin as well. His number was so good in the last season of Major League Cricket while playing for Joburg Super Kings.
They need a pace bowler to partner with Marco Jansen and Arshdeep Singh, who else fits better for the role other than Shami.
