Karnataka: In the MNREGA scheme, men cheated women and cheated 3 lakhs

Some women wearing sarees were acting like MNREGA laborers. These women wrapped in colorful sarees kept the veil decoction and were trying to walk on the shy. But after seeing their gestures, the suspicion deepened, then the officials were surprised when they saw their veil removed. Men’s face came out from behind that veil. He took advantage of about 3 lakh rupees from the government scheme by taking women into the wake of women.

The incident is from the Yadgir district of Karnataka, where these men took their photographs as women and later uploaded these photos on the National Mobile Monitoring Service (NMMS) to apply attendance, so that it could be wrongly depicted that women laborers were working here.

This incident is reported to be of February 2025. Due to this fraud, where the government scheme was defrauded, the real women laborers wandering in search of work had to be denied employment.

When this matter came to light, the local people demanded strict action against the administration. However, the local panchayat described itself as innocent and put all the blame on the outsourced employees.

Panchayat Development Officer Chennabaswa of Malhar village said, ‘I have no role in this matter. An outsourced employee did all this and I was not aware of it. When the matter came to light, I suspended that employee. Now work is going on smoothly under the MNREGA scheme in the village. We have provided work to 2,500 laborers.

Meanwhile, the Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Department claimed that from March it had taken an initiative to provide 100 days of employment under the MNREGA scheme, so that the workers could be prevented from migrating to big cities. Yadagir District Panchayat also said that demand centers have been opened in all village and taluk panchayats, so that those who need work can be given immediate help.
