Knocked out of playoffs, furious KKR slams BCCI for sudden IPL 2025 rule change – heraldgoa.in
On May 20, the BCCI announced several major changes in IPL 2025. The board altered the venues for some matches, including those in the playoffs. Also, to tackle weather-related disruptions, the predetermined extra time to complete rain-affected matches has been extended by one hour. Now, instead of 60 minutes, 120 minutes of extra time will be allowed for the remaining league matches. Earlier, this rule applied only to playoff matches, but it has now been extended to the rest of the league stage in the current season.
According to media reports, the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) franchise has expressed its displeasure over these sudden changes in playing conditions and has sent a letter to the BCCI. The franchise argues that if the decision had been made earlier, their May 17 match against RCB, which was washed out due to rain, could have seen some play. That match proved crucial as the washout led to KKR’s elimination from the playoff race.
Kolkata was originally set to host the IPL 2025 final, but due to weather forecasts, the final will now be played in Ahmedabad on June 3. Ahmedabad will also host Qualifier 2. Meanwhile, Punjab’s Mullanpur will host Qualifier 1 on May 29 and the Eliminator on May 30. Due to the monsoon, the May 23 match between Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Sunrisers Hyderabad has also been moved from Bengaluru to Lucknow.
As per the original IPL 2025 schedule, Hyderabad and Kolkata were to host the playoff matches. However, due to the India-Pakistan tension and the monsoon, the BCCI decided to make these adjustments.
