Sunil Narine and Rahmanullah Gurbaz open the batting for KKR, and Khaleel Ahmad has the new ball for CSK. Gurbaz has first strike.
KKR: 0/0 (0)
Rahmanullah Gurbaz, who had swung his bat at every single delivery, finally pays the price. After hitting a boundar off the first ball of Khaleel Ahmed and then hitting a massive six off Anshul Kamboj, the bowler has the last laugh. The Afghan tried to flick a full delivery towards leg side, but does not get any pace on it, and it reaches Noor Ahmad at mid-wicket.
Rahmanullah Gurbaz 11(9) c Noor b Kamboj
KKR: 17/1 (2)
Despite the early wicket, Rahane and Narine are sticking to the script of trying to hit every ball out of the park. So far, it has been a hit and miss approach, with three fours in two overs.
Kamboj also got another wicket, as Rahane tried to hit the final ball of the fourth over, but did not get the middle of the bat. The ball went high up in the air, but, thankfully for KKR, Pathirana could not grab the ball. It was a difficult chance, but one that CSK can’t afford to drop.
KKR: 36/1 (4)
Narine goes after Ashwin, hitting back-to-back fours, before catching a wide ball with the bottom of his bat, but still covering the straight boundary and getting a huge maximum.
KKR: 50/1 (5)
Terrific reaction from MS Dhoni to stump Narine. The West Indian rushed out to hit a slog shot off Noor Ahmad, but completely misses the ball. The ball rolls and goes to Dhoni’s gloves, and he hits all three stumps.
The umpire calls for a review, and Dhoni was quick enough — there was never really any doubt about that.
Sunil Narine 26(17) st Dhoni b Noor
Noor gets another scalp! This time it’s Angkrish Raghuvanshi. The youngster tries to defend against a fuller delivery from the spinner, but the ball turns away from the batter and gets the slightest of touches and is somehow held on to by Dhoni. KKR lose their third wicket.
Angkrish Raghuvanshi 1(2) c Dhoni b Noor
KKR: 73/3 (8)
… Rohit Sharma has announced his retirement from Test cricket. A true legend of the game, and he deserves all the applauds.
Despite good bowling by Noor, KKR batters are continuing to rotate the strike, with no dot balls in the last two overs. Manish Pandey is yet to get going at the moment, but Rahane is nearing his half-century, and batting at a strike rate of more than 150.
KKR: 87/3 (10)
Jadeja gets the main men! Rahane tries to be clever, opting for a reverse sweep against the spinner, but completely miscues the contact. The ball angles into the bowler, which means it hits the top of the bat, and flies to Devon Conway at backward point.
Ajinkya Rahane 48(33) c Conway b Jadeja
KKR: 103/4 (13)
It’s Andre Russell show at Eden Gardens at the moment. Jadeja, who was brilliant in the previous over, is hit for back-to-back boundaries and a six by the West Indian, and KKR will be happy that the big hitter has began roaring early tonight.
KKR: 124/4 (15)
A disappointing end to Russell’s innings. He attempted to hit a shorter googly from Noor, but tries to hit it towards off side but can not get any height on it, and it falls to Dewald Brevis, who takes a good catch under floodlights.
Russell looks expretely disappointed with his shot selection, as the ball from Noor wasn’t particularly good, but he ultimately ended up losing his wicket.
Andre Russell 38(21) c Brevis b Noor
KKR: 149/5 (17)
A half-tracker from Noor is swatted by Rinku Singh towards backward square leg. The shot fails to clear the boundary, and reaches Ayush Mhatre on the boundary ropes. The youngster fails to hold on to the ball, and juggles with it and holds on in the third time asking, and Rinku has to depart for single digit run.
Rinku Singh 9(6) c Mhatre b Noor
Excellent final over from Pathirana, conceding just six singles, and KKR finish the first innings with 179 runs. Slightly below par score at Eden Gardens, but nothing that can’t be won with.
KKR: 179/6 (20)
Ayush Mhatre and Devon Conway are opening CSK’s chase, while Vaibhav Arora has the new ball for KKR.
CSK: 0/0 (0)
What an impact from Arora, and the pacer gets an early wicket. Mhatre swats the ball towards cover point, but the change in pace takes him by surprise, and he finds Harshit Rana, who has a catching practice.
Ayush Mhatre 0(2) c Rana b Arora
CSK: 8/1 (1)
After Ayush Mhatre’s debut heroics in the last match, it’s another debutant’s chance to shine for CSK. Urvil Patel hit a huge six over square leg in his second delivery off Vaibhav Arora, and then gives a thumping to Moeen Ali, hitting 6-4-6 in the first three deliveries.
The 26-year-old, purchased for INR 30 lakh by CSK, looks to be another rough diamond.
Hats off, Mr Moeen Ali! After the worst possible start to the over, he sticks to his strengths, bowls a full-length delivery to Devon Conway. The Kiwi expects the ball to turn, but it goes straight towards the leg stump, and CSK lose their second wicket.
Moeen Ali 0(2) b Ali
CSK: 25/2 (2)
A fiery knock from the debutant comes to an end. After dispatching Harshit Rana for a boundary and a huge six down long on, the pacer challenges the batter to hit a big one down the off-side, but he gets a big outside edge and it flies to Chakaravarthy at short third position.
Urvil Patel 31(11) c Chakaravarthy b Rana
CSK: 37/3 (3)
CSK is facing another batting order crumble, and Ashwin departs after a cheap dismissal. He tries to hit an off-drive but fails to get any sort of elevation, and similar to Mhatre’s dismissal, finds Raghuvanshi at backward point.
Ravichandran Ashwin 8(7) c Raghuvanshi b Rana
CSK: 56/4 (5)
Another gone for CSK, and Chakaravarthy gets a wicket in his very first over. The delivery is turning away from the batter, and Jadeja completely messes up the timing, instead getting an inside edge and hitting the stumps.
Ravindra Jadeja 19(10) b Chakaravarthy
The wind is picking up at Eden Gardens, with Narine visibly having rouble bowling in the conditions. Thankfully, no rain in sight as of yet.
Brevis seems to have targetted Narine as someone to go after, hitting a boundary off the last ball of the seventh over. After a tight over from Varun Chakaravarthy, he hit a six off Narine’s third delivery, adding two more runs in the final delivery. Nine runs from the over.
CSK: 88/5 (9)
Varun Chakravarthy accounts for the red-hot Dewald Brewis, and the Knight Riders sense an opportunity again. The mystery spinner has Brevis caught at long on by Rinku Singh for a 25-ball 52, and MS Dhoni arrives at the crease. The required run rate is close to eight an over, but another wicket here and CSK might be struggling.
CSK: 132/6 (14)
Shivam Dube hit one six and one four across two overs, which yielded 15 runs. CSK need more to win this chase, though, with MS Dhoni failing to get going yet.
CSK: 147/6 (16)
Dhoni has really struggled in this innings, and it’s Dube who is doing the heavy lifting at the moment. Vaibhav versus Dube — a fantastic battle, and one that the batter comes out on top with an 83-metre six down long on.
But Vaibhav will not take it lying down, challenging Dube to go big again. The batter obliges, but gets more height this time, and finds Rinku Singh, who takes a stunning catch.
Shivam Dube 45(40) c Rinku b Arora
Arora gets another one, as Noor Ahmad looks to finish the over with a big shot towards long on, but Rinku Singh takes another stunning catch, covering a lot of ground and diving forward.
Eight runs needed from the last over. KKR still in the game.
CSK: 172/8 (19)
As long as Dhoni is there, CSK is in the match, and it proves true again, as the skipper begins the final over with a big six, releasing the pressure, and Kamboj wraps up the innings with a boundary. Easy win for CSK at the end.
