Welcome to Sportstar’s highlights of the IPL 2025 match between Lucknow Super Giants and Delhi Capitals at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow.
Delhi Capitals’ KL Rahul became the fastest player to reach 5000 runs in the Indian Premier League during the match against Lucknow Super Giants in Lucknow on Tuesday.
Close! Rahul takes a quick single and notches up his third fifty of the season!
Axar calmly hits the ball straight down the ground for a single. Just five needed now off 14 balls.
SIX! Rahul picks out the short ball well and sends it over mid wicket to win the game for Delhi Capitals!
Digvesh bowling out.
DROPPED! Prince Yadav fails to take the catch after Axar Patel’s miscued shot was falling kindly for him at short third. And the DC skipper thanks Prince for the reprieve and sends the ball over mid-wicket for yet another SIX in his innings.
Shardul has been brought back. A wicket is desperately needed as the pacer is seen in an animated conversation with Pant, setting the field.
FOUR! A slower short ball and Rahul slowly pulls it. Slight edge and it goes past Pant behind the stumps and races to the ropes.
SIX! Axar muscles it over mid-wicket and the slow off-cutter is deposited into the stands! Match is running away from LSG.
Overthrow there and two runs on the last ball.
Avesh with his third over.
Brilliant over so far. Just one run off it, the pacer bowling a disciplined line and length and not giving the batters too much free rein.
And as we say that, Axar makes space for himself and smacks it over the mid off fielder for a FOUR! A slower bouncer that’s adjudged a wide.
Bishnoi with his third over.
DC’s run flow seems to have been restricted after that wicket.
SIX! Axar smacks it over mid-wicket with ease and the runs come back! And another SIX! Axar taking no prisoners!
Avesh with his second over as Axar Patel takes strike.
Couple of hits and misses from the DC skipper. He finally gets off the mark with a single on his fifth ball.
Markram with his third over.
SIX! Great use of the feet and Rahul easily smacks it down the ground for another maximum.
Markram targeting Rahul’s body whenever the batter is shifting across his crease but the DC ‘keeper still hitting it.
OUT! Porel tries to clear mid-wicket but instead holes out to the fielder in the deep. Markram shouts ‘catch, catch’ and Miller obeys.
Porel c Miller b Markram 51 (36)
Bishnoi with his second over and he is smacked for a SIX down the ground by Porel. Fifty up for the batter! In 33 balls!
Rahul rampage! The wicketkeeper-batter slog sweeps it over mid-wicket and the sound off the bat is immaculate!
The point fielder fails to stop the ball as Rahul’s backfoot punch results in the batter running a two.
Markram is back. Porel reverse sweeps, gets a top edge for four over short leg. 11 runs came in that over. So DC choosing its bowler to target.
Digvesh. The 160-run target is allowing the batters to not take too much risk at the moment. A very good over by Digvesh this, just three singles from it.
Ravi Bishnoi into the attack. Porel opens the blade towards backward point and gets a double. DC is hardly playing any dot balls. Seven runs from the over.
Digvesh is back. Fielding hasn’t been the best today – from both sides. Porel and Rahul continue to rotate the strike and keep the scoreboard ticking. An LBW appeal against Rahul. Umpire gives it not out and LSG reviews. Impact outside off, not out.
Avesh Khan into the attack. On the hips and this time Rahul tickles it away towards fine leg for four. Another four! Porel punches the full toss towards covers for four! Sweetly timed. 10 runs from the last over of the PowerPlay.
Prince. He’s keeping it straight, into the stumps. On the hips and Rahul just guides it towards square leg for four! Easy pickings. Six runs from the over.
Aiden Markram into the attack. Nair goes down on one knee and smacks the ball straight down the ground for a six! OUT! Nair makes room and tries to go towards the leg side. The ball hits him on the thigh pads and deviates towards the stumps. Nair falls for 15 off 9 balls.
KL Rahul in at three. 10 runs and a wicket in that over.
Prince Yadav into the attack. Porel charges down the track and Prince bowls a bumper to beat him. Full toss and Porel slaps it straight past the bowler for four. Porel swings hard towards square leg and gets a double. Porel looking to be aggressive from ball one. Seven runs from the over.
Digvesh Rathi into the attack. Nair cuts, misfield at points gives a single. Porel leans forward and slaps the ball towards cover for four! Just six runs from the over.
Karun Nair and Abishek Porel open. Shardul Thakur with the new ball.
Porel doesn’t time his pull off the first ball. Luckily for him, the ball falls short of the mid on fielder. Nair begins his innings with a straight drive for four! Beautiful push. Follows it up with a cover drive for four! Two gorgeous hits. An LBW appeal against Nair but umpire doesn’t give it. Porel comes down the track, gets an outside edge for four.
Mukesh with the last over and he is slapped over covers by Badoni for a FOUR! Full toss and another FOUR! Badoni swings and finds the boundary over at the covers again.
FOUR! Badoni cuts the shorter ball and it goes over the fielders and goes for a boundary at backward point.
OUT! Badoni’s fine knock comes to an end as he walks across his crease and tries to slog sweep but misses. His off stump is skittled.
Badoni b Mukesh 36 (21)
Rishabh Pant comes out to bat. He steps out and goes for the big one but misses. Last ball to go. OUT! Pant tries to reverse hit it but instead the ball ricochets off his pads and hits the stumps!
Pant b Mukesh 0 (2)
Great second half of the over from Mukesh!
Starc to bowl out in the innings’ penultimate over. Watching from the stands is the Australia skipper and the pacer’s better half Alyssa Healy.
FOUR! Even before Starc releases the ball, Badoni changes his stance and reverse hits it over the ‘keeper for a boundary!
Just eight off the over.
Chameera brought back for his third over. First ball is fuller and Miller cover drives it straight to the fielder inside the circle.
Two runs taken, another poor display of fielding from Stubbs.
FOUR! Badoni punishes a loose ball from Chameera and smacks it for a boundary through point. Stubbs’ diving effort goes in vain.
Kuldeep bowling out. Couple of runs through running between the wickets and then a wide from the tweaker.
A dot to end his spell.
Mukesh continues. Impact Player Ayush Badoni on strike. DROPPED! Wide of the off stump and Badoni swings at it. The ball travels flat and Tristan Stubbs was arriving at it but he fluffs the catch!
FOUR! On his pads and Badonie flicks it to find the gap between fine leg and deep square leg fielders.
Kuldeep back. And he is smacked for a FOUR by Miller who sweeps it well. Eight runs off it.
Mukesh brought back.
OUT! Samad hits it straight back to Mukesh and the batter has to walk back.
Samad c&b Mukesh 2 (8)
David Miller comes out to bat.
OUT! It’s the set batter Marsh whose stumps are skittled by a beautiful, pin-point yorker by Mukesh.
Marsh b Mukesh 45 (36)
Kuldeep continues.
The batters sending the ball to deep to rotate strike and take singles and twos.
And a strategic timeout has been taken.
Starc with his third over. Full toss and Marsh hits it through the covers for a single.
GONE! Pooran goes to pull a bouncer, which seemed to be a slower one, and the batter plays it onto the stumps!
Pooran b Starc 9 (5)
Abdul Samad the new batter at the crease. Similar ball but Samad plays it onto his pads.
Kuldeep brought into the attack. Marsh pulls but gets a top edge. However, falls just short of the backward square leg fielder.
FOUR and FOUR! First ball and Pooran sweeps and finds the boundary. Next ball, and the batter smacks another boundary!
Marsh playing it carefully against the left-arm spinner.
Chameera is back. Markram drives, a misfield at the covers gets him a single. Chameera now using the slower variations as well. Can’t stop the singles though. OUT! Markram makes room and tries to go over deep cover but is caught. It was coming, LSG wasn’t getting boundaries and Markram had to take the risk. He falls for 52 off 33 balls.
Starc is back. Dealing in singles at the moment, these two. Five singles off the first five balls. Can Starc finish the over well? Markram pulls towards square leg and gets a double. That’ll be his fifty off 30 balls.
Vipraj Nigam into the attack. Half tracker and Markram sends the ball over deep midwicket boundary for a six. He once again tries to go over the same region and gets top edge. Starc runs in, dives but isn’t able to reach the ball. Length ball and this time Marsh sends it towards square leg for four. 14 runs from the over.
Axar will finish off his overs now. Markram makes room and hits the ball straight past the bowlers for four. Very nicely timed shot. Both batters have focused on running between the wickets. 10 runs from the over.
Dushmantha Chameera for the first time this season. Marsh greets him with a SIX! On the hips and he picks it over square leg boundary. Both batters haven’t tried to hit the ball hard so far. 11 runs from the final over of the PowerPlay.
Axar bowling his third. Marsh goes on backfoot and cuts the ball just over the cover fielder for four! Keeping the stumps in play. Another nine-run over.
Mukesh Kumar into the attack. Markram slashes, gets a thick outside edge that goes past short third for four. SIX! Gloriously lofted over mid on by Markram. Sweetly timed. 12 runs from the over. DC has controlled the scoring rate so far.
Axar continues. Marsh drives the ball towards long off and a terrible misfield sends the ball to the fence for four. Seven runs from the over.
Mitchell Starc from the other end. SIX! Short ball and Markram pulls it over square leg boundary. Easy pickings. A good over for LSG, nine runs from it.
Mitchell Marsh and Aiden Markram open the innings. Axar Patel to bowl the first over.
Markram on strike, a dot to begin with. A single off the second ball towards long off. Marsh is off the mark with a single as well. Inside edge off Marsh’s bat and the ball ricochet’s off his shoes to Rahul. Rahul queries if the ball directly bounced off the shoes or touched the ground.
